So my EK9 swap has been in my car for quite some time and I've worked out the quirks. Well, all except for one. When I turn whilst in gear at parking lot speeds I get clunking, popping, and jerking. If I'm in neutral (or clutch pushed in) it turns smoothly but it feels like there is more tension on the steering wheel than before. I checked all my suspension bits and they're tight and solid. My transmission is full with brand new Honda MTF and has been rechecked as of this past weekend. It's been doing this since I got the swap and its getting a bit irritating.

Could it be a problem with the diff do you think?! Or perhaps it's not an oem diff?

Sounds like an aftermarket diff to me. Plate type diffs usually cause this kind of noise.

I thought so...but it starts bucking my car and making clunking sounds like the damn trans is gonna fall off.

So do I basically have to drive differently somehow to get it to not buck up and down? It doesn't sound healthy at all.

Sounds like a plated diff :D They can be a tad aggressive for road use, and particularly when parking! Should corner like a monster though

It does corner like a monster....I've never had a better handling car. It does, however, feel wrong like something is broken. It's hard to explain.

Hmmmm wait for MFactory or someone more knowledgable to pop up! Could just be you're not using the correct fluid, aftermarket diffs tend to need specific fluids. What is in there at the moment? Regular Honda transmission fluid?! If so, and it's something like a Cusco 1.5, then that might be why you're having trouble!

I see...How would I even know without taking it apart...which is not an option.

Impossible to tell what brand it is without taking it apart I'm afraid. But any knowledgable garage should be able to tell you whether or not it's a plated diff, and probably what kind, 2 way, 1.5 etc.

A lot of the aftermarket diffs can use various aftermarket diff fluids, I know most Kaaz diffs work fine with Cusco fluid, so maybe try Cusco fluid. But like I said, I;'m not really an expert, I'm sure other members will be able to help you more and give you better reccomendations on fluid etc :nice:

if you jack both wheels up and lock one, it should take quite a bit of torque to turn the other wheel + slip the diff plates, i think !

by lock one do you mean keep it from moving? they should both turn in the same direction/same speed until one LOSES traction correct?

oh I think I'm beginning to see. It's going to effing break my damn front suspension if I don't get this thing running properly. It works GRRRRRREAT at speed but making a left or right at a light makes me have to feather my rediculous OS Giken Single Stage clutch so I don't go jerking, bouncing, and clunking around the corner.

we spoke about this before and I mentioned that it could be your axle binding since you said your car was very low.

Whatever the case - noise diagnosis in TEXT format is like trying to paint a picture with words - vague and everybody's interpretation is different.

Take a video and upload it to google/youtube - from inside the car and outside.

I'll do it tomorrow when I get home from work...and the axle binding issue is definitely still a possibility but I see EKs with the same drop and they're not complaining about the same issue. It has to be the diff.

if you just jack up one side, leave the other on the ground, it should take quite a lot of effort to turn the lifted wheel if you have a plate diff.

is it not the cv joints on the driveshafts, any play in them ?

I'm going to have to try that. The axles are brand spankin new with no play. The axles are, however, at an angle such as \_/ (where /\ = axle). It's not THAT dramatic but it goes UP at an angle from the trans to the knuckle.

So I have videos and I have them on my site but I can't get public access to them. Youtube isn't working for some reason. Takes FOREVER then it tells me it can't upload them.
