Hi guys, right :

Yesterday I ordered the Seibon Carbon Boot lid for my car (carbon trunk to the good american folks reading this, my bad lol)

Anyway ... a friend of mine is selling a spoon carbon fibre bonnet. I was wondering, do companies manufacture their carbon in different ways? will there be a noticable difference in how they look? Should i buy a seibon bonnet (hood) as oppose to the spoon one?

Anyone got experience with this? :D

Thanks

But you could still look at the front, then the back and know it didnt look right!!

Plus it would annoy the **** out of me if I knew it didnt look right .....

Spoon uses a 1X1 weave while the last Seibon offerings I've seen use a 2X2 weave.

It's going to look off. Unless Seibon has changed that recently, but IIRC at the 2007 SEMA show I attended, I made the stark comment that they're still using this "big checkerboard weave..."

Spoon's clearcoat is not as thick either...and tends to fade/weather after a little while.

i have been told the weave between seibon and spoon are different . i would go and buy the seibon bonnet to match mate

i jus bought the varis oem carbon bonnet just waiting on it being delivered

Do you think the "big checkerboard weave..." looks bad? Not that it matters ive bought the trunk lid now lol

I personally do not like the 2x2 weave. I was surprised to see it make it to production on the Audi R8 sideblades.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I honestly think it doesn't look nice after seeing the tighter 1x1 JDM weaves.

This is just wet carbon too... I would be in convulsions, peeing my pants if they made affordable dry carbon bonnets and boot lids....

wet = resin used to harden it .... think fiberglass

dry = heat and pressure used to form it...think Formula 1

dry carbon is also lighter and much stronger.

how much and where did you get your boot from? I have a seibon bonnet and a genuine spoon spoiler, I can't say I've ever noticed the difference, but I'm going to have a good look tommorow!
