Hi all,

i recently changed my release bearing when i upgraded to the b18c as it was making alot of noise when i had the b16b, but i started it up saturday for the first time and the noise is still there!

anyone have any ideas to why?

its exactly the same noise and once he clutch is pressed down it goes away

thanks

ben

Did you use a oem Honda release bearing? Is it very loud? Unfortunality if you can rule out the release bearing then it's most likely the mainshaft bearing within gearbox.

yes its oem honda. yeah its well loud. the mainshaft bearing that sounds expensive. can it be changed?

Yes can be changed. Have to remove gearbox from car and open casing to inspect the bearing. Don't think there mad expensive.

mines exactly the same but i havent replaced the release bearing yet but i have a feeling its the mainshaft as its really loud like yours.

what type of noise is it booosh? i had a noise and when the clutch was presed would go away. i greased inside the boot beside the slave and the noise went.or open the bonnet and when you can hear the noise squeeze the black boot on the front of the gearbox and if it goes when you do this just lube it up.

i had the same symptoms on mine, i thought it was the release bearing so changed the clutch etc too. just by chance i felt the spigot bearing?? [the one inside your flywheel] and it had collapsed. fitted a new one about a tenner from local bearing suppliers and noise went away. there was no play/friction in my old release bearing so put the noise down to the spigot one gone

sherono1 - sound mate i will check this first thing tomorrow morning, and if so what lube did you use?

dhdavectr - if the above doesnt work i will check this it.

thanks

I have the exact same problem, it makes me crazy! It is the loudest part of my car :( What kind of disc do you have? I have a solid 4 pad, i wonder if its that maybe? I installed new clutch/flywheel with all new parts, but the flywheel was chinese XTD with there pilot bearing, now i am thinking i should have at least used OEM honda bearings.

Hi blinx. Being a mechanic i have seen this problem a few times. If it not the thrust bearing it is usually the spigot bearing on the flywheel. Chinese bearings in my experience are not usually good quality by not being perfectly spherical.

i will get a price on an OEM spigot bearing tomorrow.

also gonna get uprated clutch and flywheel anyway while im there.

thanks again guys

right guys, well i got the new spigot bearing and fitted it and the noise is still there! but still the noise goes away when the clutch pedal is pressed!

so im guessing its gonna be the mainshaft bearing?

if so is this easy to fit without taking gears apart?

thanks again
