I've had the 4.9 fd around a month now and have had time to to give it a go now. I've tested it now on both the track and on a drag strip.

First off there is no major hige loss in speed unless you be driving around at over 100 mph on a regular basis. There is a lot more fuel consumption on motor way driving though.

First off for drag racing I feel it may be a little short, 4.4 gave me around 180kmh and now its around 160-170kmh, I don't look at the speedo that much when racing. Extremely quick off the line but near the end starts to fade in my opinion. Could be sorted with more power though.

Then onto track racing, huge improvements to be seen here on nippy tracks, on tracks with lots of corners you will notice this, a lot quicker out of turns and no real difference in top speed on tracks unless your car was derestricted. Perfect for the track.

Now for the conclusion, is it value for money, until I have dyno results to see the actual gains I won't be able to tell you the exactly is it. For track use its perfect, for drag strip times, i'd recommend 4.4 and put the money towards an increase in power, I can't recommend what type of power but go for power.

thanks for sharing !

would i not see an increase in wheel hp or torque on a dyno??

not at all. Thats why its all theaory. You "theoretically get gains in torque" But your engine is not producing any more.

Its just a way of converting. You just get more of a power band through the gear.

now i get ya. i still have to get my neo mapped so it has to go the dyno any way

d2 makes final drives?i only new of mfactory and spoon. You got a link to the d2 1 mate?

yeah i found it a bit weird when i saw the make on the box, I got it from the tuning factory. I googled it there and there seems to be other people with it but I can't find a link to the actual site for them

im in 2 minds where to go in future with my box, gearsets dont appeal to me at the moment for my requirements so think i may just go from from 4.4fd to 4.7xor 4.9 so good to read honest reviews

anyone have figures for rpm levels between 4.4,4.7 and 4.9 fd (50/15tyre), ie at 30mph each fd sits at what rpm and and 40 mph etc

On my b16a i will put the lsd and 4.9FD, mabe at the end of this year, wath i notice from searching arround is tha at the same speed you will get more hp, logicaly since your engine is on higher revs.....

I will also change some shyncros if needed at the time! You guys(Mfactory) sell a gear oil, do you tinhk that with a full synthetic 25w50 will do or is the aditives of motor oil to arch and be better with you oil!???

By the way how is the third with that 4.9 FD...I notice on other bords tha only with a 4.785FD they didn´t like the changeover and change it for another one!

Changing Final Drive doesn't affect your actual gear ratios, so there is no difference in "changeover" between different ratio final drives. The only thing that can change the rpm when shifting is by changing the actual gears themselves.

The Final Drive is a "fine-tuning" tool, used to fine tune the overall speed you want your car/transmission to achieve.

Regarding gear oil, unless you car is a high-rpm/power race car, either stick to Honda/Land Rover MTF, or see if you can find some Torco Transmission Fluid in the UK. DO NOT use a performance synthetic gear oil in your Honda transmission i.e If the bottle says OIL (and hence has a weight value) and not FLUID (which does not have a value), keep it away from your transmission.

Thing is I was looking to the Motul Racing Gear Oil, i listen so much mixed opinions on that it´s why is so them dificult, to that a didn´t any troubles, thing is once i saw a Honda dealer putting engine oil in the trany selling it as a MTF so...anyways thanks for the advice!

Well, the Honda MTF is very similar to 10w30 engine oil (+ additives), and is what Honda used to use, hence why a lot of dealers still do it (even though they shouldn't).

Anyways I will talk further more to you guys when I will be ready to buy the set LSD+FD, thanks for everything, very hard these days to talk to people how are not driven entirely by the money making part of the business and have real contact with costumers and people from the feild!:nice:

hi lad there is no need to use a gear oil unless you are running an aftermarket diff i.e 1 , 1.5, or 2way etc for everything else honda/landrover mtf is you only man:nice:
