d2 4.9 final drive review

Yeah it was on that future perspective of putting the diff!

then the motul gear 300 is better for aftermarket 1/1.5/2 way diff, if you going use a ctr/itr helical diff or other branded helical use honda/land rover mtf:nice:

For a plate diff, use Honda MTF + Ford Friction Modifier.

Again, do not use gear oil.

From my own experience Honda MTF doesn't work well with cusco & ats plated diffs it was noiser and jumpier with mtf than with motul gear 300 75w90 which is perfect imo used in eg6 y21 box and ek9 s4c box for 4yrs combined with no adverse effects

ok let me try to understand or sum this up for myslef. So really the benefit of driveabilty remains only if you change a gear w/ the FD. Like a b16a2 hydro - a 4.7/4.9FD w/ taller 5th?

Hence why you use the friction modifier, and not just the MTF ;)

Benefit of driveability? How do you mean exactly?

I would never trust a D2 FD, probably the same as OBX, thanks for sharing though and i hope it does not rip apart your gearbox...

This is a popular mod for most in the states because they often have to travel long distances on the interstate.

So some just want the pull in the first 4 gears and then treat 5th like a super long overdrive.

This is dependent on what your driving style/intended use is. Personally, I couldn't give two sh1ts about having higher rpm in 5th for cruising. People worry way too much about noise and wear and tear.

Live a little - and enjoy acceleration in all 5 forward gears.... :drive:

hahaha well said. I myself don't mind hi rpms I cruise about 70-75mph anyway. when I was younger this idea may have been a problem. I would never drive below 85mph. with the C/R gears I would probably be cruising in vtec.........LOL

Me to! People in there ar so worry about loosing the top end kph like: oh my good you only be able to do 230 in your fifth....men, limits are 120 so wath don´t need to make 300! I want it a hell of acceleration machine to track use, if i go long runs i would take my Jazz!

For the oil purpose, where i came from(Canada) they usualy don't use MTF from Honda, since the oil is very liquid, they use GM synchromesh FRICTION MODIFIED that seams to end up good on normal diffs!

But when they put LSD(mecanical one) they usualy go with the motul gear oil....for track of course, is not a daily drive car! And on my view it was quit a good option to me since I don't DD this car!
