has anyone done this? i beleive teh gear ratios in teh 98 spec tegs are better than teh stock ek9 ratios?!

i was about to ask the same Q too, from my observation, a friend of mine with s4c gearbox with 4.4 FD changed to 4.785 FD. The diff. that i noticed when cruising in 5th gear at +-100km/h, the rev is +- at 3k (4.4FD) and rev is at +- 3.5k when changed to 4.785FD.

someone told me, this rev different wont be occured if we swap the entire s80 gearbox to ek9, meaning at 5th gear, crusing at +-100km/h the rev would be around +-3k. how true is this?

integra box is geared different its about 500 rpm more revs at 80mph than my ek9,, does not drop out of vtec on teh dc2 eiether between shifts when accellerating up through teh gears

I had mine in my ek9, the best done I made! the car revs a lot faster!

well in regards to the 98+ ITR box this is what i know, 1 2 and 3 are shorter, 4 and 5 are longer, in 5th gear your rpm at 70mph should be the same as a b16b box. some people have complained that it has too big of a gap from 3rd to 4th, and then again from 4th to 5th.

gears 1 2 and 3 are the same on both boxes, what makes the 98+ shorter is the FD of 4.785.

here is a chart so you understand what i mean, the green line is stock b16b gears, the red lines are 98+ itr gears:

thnaks blinx thats really usefull now i can actually see teh differences,,

my bros DC2 pulls allot harder in third than my ek9, combination of extra tourque and power and different gear ratios,, hmmm may have to buy teh DC2 box off my mate just to try it out,,

its up to you but if you put the 4.785 it would make your 1 2 and 3 EXACTLY like the 98+ itr box, and 4th and fifth would be a bit shorter as well.

but what i would do if i was you is use a 0.714 5th gear from an integra LS and an MFactory 4.9 FD

that will bring 1-4 shorter than the 98+ ITR and 5th will be a little taller to accomodate highway driving :nice:

my suggested setup vs stock 98+ITR

i think this is really the ultimate street NA setup :nice:

still be fine for motorway cruising too, i like that setup,, hmm decisions decisions

actually the Mfactory FD is 4.928 so its just a hair shorter than my initial calculations but its still gonna provide great accel 1-4 and a 5th will be just slightly longer that stock ek9.

EK9 doesn't if you drive it right:p

I admit it's harder to keep in VTEC than a DC2 though.

Swap out your 3rd/4th for shorter ratios, but keep your stock 5th if you are worried about 4k+ cruising.

This will outperform a '98 spec box by far, and won't cost you as much either, and you already have the same LSD :)

i have a spare stock lsd also!! so which ratios do you reccomend?

1.695 3rd and 1.296 4th if you don't want too big a drop when shifting into 5th, otherwise 1.384 4th for outright performance :)

If you don't mind 4k+ rpm cruising, then change the 5th as well :)

1st: 3.230
2nd: 2.105
3rd: 1.458
4th: 1.107 1.034(ITR)
5th: 0.848 0.787(ITR)
Reverse: 3.000
Final Drive: 4.400 4.785(ITR)

I m still a noob in this gear mods thingy, I dont quite understand what all these number represent for and how we cathegorize them as a short / long gear ratio..

all I know, if we are using 4.785 FD vs 4.4FD on ek9, (both with same mods/stock) the one with 4.785FD would clock better time in quartermile race and the rpm would 'normally' clock +-500rpm more then 4.4FD.

how do bigger final drive effecting the acceleration time?

blinx,
could you elaborate more on the suggested gear setup. yup, my intention is to smoke with those highpowered b16b & b18cR with their stock ratios.

and if possible i want to retain my current rpm range, at 5th +- 3krpm, +-90km/h ~ 60mph with my stock s4c ek4 gearbox with 4.4FD

thanks!!

The higher the number, the shorter the ratio (i.e 4.785 is shorter than 4.4).

The shorter the ratio, the higher the rpm vs speed. If you are sitting at 500rpm more than stock at a certain speed, that 500rpm = more power on tap. This is why you are quicker.

The closer the gear ratios are together (e.g 2.105 -> 1.695 is closer together than 2.105 -> 1.458), the less rpm drop you will get when you shift gear. This basically means, when you shift gear, you will be sitting at a higher rpm. Higher rpm = more power on tap.

This is why gearing makes your car quicker (or slower if not matched correctly).

You cannot change your ratios as well as keep your current rpm's at the same time.

thanks a bunch MFactory,
my car is for daily driving and the country i live in (s'pore) its hard to explore the full potential of my ride. I normally go to malaysia to source for parts and they have a long motorway and a circuit nearby.for LSD maybe i would go for kaaz and with regards to the gear ratio, how much it cost (3rd&4th) 1.695,1.296 and if i install this in my current setup, it wont be effecting my current cruising speed& rpm rite..

If you only install the 3/4, it won't affect your cruising speeds as you would be retaining the stock 5th.

for pricing, you can contact our SG distributor: e240@teammfactory.com, or contact our dealers on SHC :)

well there is not much left to elaborate on based on my last comment which was:

"that will bring 1-4 shorter than the 98+ ITR and 5th will be a little taller to accomodate highway driving"

basically your car will move a lot faster from gears 1-4 and 5th will be a little bit longer than stock meaning that your rpm will be lower when cruising on the freeway/motorway

thanks blinx,
with that mentioned setup, roughly on what rpm then we cruising at +-60mph / 100km/h on 5th..
