do all ek9s/vtecs burn oil?

It all depends on the oil really, the cheaper oils will break down more quickly at higher temps causing them to be "burnt off". Also depends alot on your engine and its internals.

An engine serviced well with good oil will have alot less wear than an engine serviced with cheap oils.

my ek9 doesn't burn a drop and no smoke on vtec:nice:
service every 4000k miles, warm up and less abuse helps.
my car has 71000 miles at present.

Depends on many factors as mentioned, however with the rod to stroke ratio of the b16b if taken care of the rings and bores will outlast a b18c

Used hard they will burn oil without some cooling upgrades, as standard they run silly hot with the joke of an oem radiator

There is a difference between a smokey engine and one which uses oil though ;)

No word of a lie, but the B16A2 in my Vti has barely used any oil in about 4 months and I've been to and from Preston, Silverstone, Liverpool many times and done quite a few miles. Guess it may be because it's mainly motorway driving so the car is cruising at 75 for long periods of time, still give it the beans in Vtec coming onto the motorway, going through a tunnel or on a good B road.

ya seems they all use a bit when vtecd
i know a fewlads over the years with awful smoky b16a2s but they were quicker than other b16s that were healthier so i guess..........

just cos theyre smokey doesnt mean they are slow it seems:nerv:

My old b16a2 never used a drop between services and never smoked. Was driven very hard
