strongly considering buying an ek4 or mb6 in the next few months can anybody tell me the advantages and disadvantages of the 2 cars running costs insurance potential problems etc any hely would be greatly apreciated :thanks:

EK4 is a proper Civic.

MB6 is a rebadged Rover with a decent engine.

 yea both pretty different mate, depends what your after in a car

The mb6 is a quick car with cheap insurance but you cannot buy aftermarket parts for them. It's also a good family car. With an ek the parts are readily available. Personal preference really.

If your having a baby soon and still itching having a vtec I'd get the mb6 benefits you can get with it's already got the b series bullet proof engine, bigger brakes no need upgrading, comfy ride if you still wanted to spend decent mods in it you can like me lol trust me you can proper transform an mb6 , if your single I'd get the ek4 as it's more sporty look plus still have the vtec and can get loads of mods you can do with it I've been there I'd still love having the ek but I can't justify having a 3 door with my boy;)

Hard to compare them as they are completley different cars.

Pro's for EK: Hudge aftermarket, more performance oriented and i think the engine/box combo is far better.
Cons: Expensive for what they are unless you find a high milage molested example.

Pro's for MB: Dirt cheap for the ammount of car u get. Good spec, reliable engine, plenty of space, comfortable and awsome stereo lol!
Con's: virtually no aftermarket, crap gearing, crap suspension, horrible dash and living with the rover/mg heratige.

Basically it all boils down to what you want from a car and choosig accordingly.

If kids are in the mix, get an ATR. Blows the MB6 into the weeds.

Very true with the oem gearing that's why I upgraded mine into S80 lsd made a he'll lot of difference!!;)

Can pick a good condition mb6 up for under a grand. You'd only get the worst of the worst ek4 for that price.
The gearing isn't crap, it's the final drive that let's it down.

No aftermarket parts ?
Shares most of the same bits as other Hondas.
I had the usual coilovers/exhaust/intake on mine that everyone goes for.

Buy a dirt cheap mb6, if you don't like it then fit the engine and running gear into a ej9.
Most people want to upgrade the 1.6 in the ek4 after owning it for a bit so skip the disappointment of the b16 and just fit a b18c4

On this occation I would have to disagree. The MB6 is a far more useable car, for one it has a hatch instead of a crapy boot door, along with a larger boot. As for comfort and space inside I would say the MB6 wins again. Power and handling are its only real drawback from the Accord R. But with the difference in price it wouldn't be too hard to get the MB6 up to speed.

Yea the chassis will never be at tight as an ATR and the engine never as powerfull as the H22 without a fair amount of money.

Don't see how there are no parts out there to buy for them. I bought one last year, managed to source a full set of Koni's, HnR springs, 16" wheels, MG ZR Rear ARB and a stainless exhaust off an integra, all within a couple of weeks. Majority of EG/DC suspension arms fit and all shorter ratio B series gearbox's drop straight in.

In comparison to an EK4 as a daily I would have an MB6 any day unless you found a Cheap, well spec'd and well looked after EK4.

Id say EK4 but thats because I own one :p

Kids arnt in the mix there was always something about the mb I liked I was told an integra sir brain and box fairly livens them up it all comes down to insurance in the end as said before ud get a good mb for about 1200 to 1500 thats cheap vtec and alot of car for the money although I agree what you say about the ek they are pretty perfect when you factor in looks and power
