As above ^ ... Does anyone have a non-PAS ek9 steering rack ??

Its just a fully manual rack and is very hard to get 2nd hand.. best off just converting an ek9 p/s to fully manual

whats the best way to do this? ive heard of pumping it with grease, looping the feed and return, but what is the proper way to do it so it will last and will pass nct as if they see it is meant to have p/s and you,ve just looped the lines they wont pass it!:drive:

The EK9 non PAS rack is not a quick rack like the normal 9 rack. It's just taken from a bottom of the range non PAS EK Civic.
IMO best off converting a normal 9 rack.

As said above though, how do you do this?

You have to strip the rack down and remove some pressure valve I think.

This is what I did to mine. After doing this just cut off the plugs for the line on the rack, weld them in and you are good.

To do this did you take the big nut off the nearside of the rack?

Aye. Actually just got the rack back from my mate. I had him weld up the holes and now it looks nice and smooth. Can not wait to install it.

No you dont have to fill it with grease. The rack is manual now after removing the piston. I actually had the two ports welded shut as well.

surely it would be a better job if you greased your rack and pinion to allow it to be lubricated and work easier? i,ll be doing this soon, thinking about putting a grease nipple on one of the ports and welding the other one shut!
