Iv started having a problem with my car over the last couple of weeks and its starting to piss me off now and i cant work out the problem, basicly if you drive under 4000 rpm the main lights dim down and if you go over 4000 rpm they go to there normaly bright beam, also if i rev the car up and down the engine temp gauge is jumping up and down a few mm, Iv changed my alternator as i thought it could of possibly been dying, checked my earths on my engine, even added an extra earth wire just incase and its still doing it :/ i cant get my head around what it is, anyone know what i could be? thanks Jesse

Did you clean up the small earths on the thermostat housing?

Sounds like a bad earth. Check all the earths. Anything over 0.1v is a bad earth.

I think iv checked them all? its driving me insane as i cant work it out!

Have you tried running a 12v supply from the battery direct to the lights. This would rule out a wiring issue on the wiring loom if the fault persists.

Turn on the ignition and turn on dipped beam, are they working as normal?
Then start the car and they're not working to full potential?
Once the car is started all the power comes from the alternator, so It would appear that the alternator is faulty. Cause it sounds like your alternator is acting like a dynamo!

Another way to confirm is to remove the auxiliary drive belt and run the car and try the lights.
Or could be the alternator fitted doesn't supply enough amps

i changed the alternator as i have a few spare and its still the same, its only on normal light beam when it doesnt not on dipped, it doesnt make sence if the cars not running and ignition is on and you turn lights onto main beam the temp gauge flickers up a little :s

Iv not seen your post were it states it's a jdm model bud ,
Anyways the elds are known to go bad and do what you have posted
