Would you like to explain :nice: I was wondering if there were any quick fixes for the day! ! !
I may just get keep ane eye out for another cat!

I used a engine flush, collie's cat and threw the full bottle of diptane in with €20 petrol, maxol E5 fuel is higher octance too which is supposed to bring down your emissions too some how, good clean filters too aswell. Give the car a good roasting before the nct aswell as if you drive the car up cold, the cat won't be warm enough to start working. The second time I went up, it failed again but just barely so he tried it again and then it passed. Hope that helps

Finally got this sorted and passed the emissions test (however it did fail on the rear brakes, but that’s another days work!), I took off the old Cat and it was all broke inside, however, from one end it seemed fine when you look in at it which is why I suspected that it wasn’t the Cat causing the problem. Anyway I replaced it with a second hand one.

Another problem encountered was the sensor located in the cat was seized and rusted away and it disintegrated when I tried to remove it. I just plugged the hole in the new one with a bolt. (Anyone know what this sensor is for and will my car run properly without it?)

Thanks everyone for your help,

I was going to say, I cant see how high octane fuel would increase emissions, I would have thought the opposite. They prevent detonation, and I would presume that if the fuel isnt getting burnt properly this will be shown in the exhaust gasses and give off higher readings. Im no mechanic, but Im just trying to think logically.
