well basically i was just reading a post about someone going to buy a 1.5l eg sir (i think)IMPORT at 16 and there was alot of responses saying it will be really hard to ensure plus if he does he will be slaughtered - so was wondering what would be the perfect 1st car , something relativly cheap to insure and is practical performance (stock) i was really wanting a civic ek4 1.6l as my 1st car but thread sayes otherwise

All depends on how much you are willing to spend on insurance.
Plenty of folk will tell you to get as small engined car as possible til you get some experience.
Have you thought about an eg lsi. Cheap road tax and you can upgrade alot of the car with other Honda parts like dc2 suspension for pretty cheap if you're willing to pay a bit more on your insurance.
Best to phone round and find out how much you'll be looking to pay.
If you're happy to pay mega bucks I say go for it. No point having to drive a car that you hate for a year just to save some cash, could die before you get to buy a nice one.
Just make sure you declare all mods and I don't think anyone will have any problems

EJ9. cheap insurance, its a honda, its a civic, its a starting point. And it can beat or is as fast as a lot of 1.6's on the roads.

Perfect :nice:

was looking at vw polo 94 - 00 1l which seem to be insurance friendly however love civic ek body and would love 1 as my 1st car but was wondering if they done 1 to 1.3 l version ???

Yes there is an 1.3 eg civic carb not fuel injected, but anyway...

My llittle bro bought the 1.3 eg before he was 17 asuming insurance would be decent due to the engine size, but when he passed, insurance wanted crazy money im talking £1800 roughly tpft and that was him as a named driver and where i live isnt the worst area's! The insurance company stated it was soo expensive for a few reasons

1. new driver
2. It was past an age where the government don't want these cars on the road ( this was when the scrappage scheme had began)

Thats what they said!

This obviously changes different insurance, different location etc,
I would recomend if you dont want to spend alot of money on insurance then try an ej9(1.4 ek) or ek3(1.5 eco, ek)

Just trial and error though mate!:nice:

stay away from all honda and other jap made cars as insurance is killer for a 1st car that aint goina **** ya itll have to be a corsa or something. A 1.4 civic is group 9 or something which is goina be expensive to insure

Group 7, about the same as your saxo vtr and stuff like that and thats what a lot of people get as their first car so the insurance aint mega suppose it just depends if your willing to pay a wee bit more, but for that wee bit more you will save that anyway if you get a honda you wont have to spend money on fixing the thing as much as other cars ;)

i had a 1.3 eg civic dx

was an amazing first car, wasnt slow either!
