Gearbox build first impressions..

Ta for the explanation on the pm^. Bedded the brakes in today, the 1.130 5th - cruising on the motorway, if I gently ease in the throttle vtec kicks in at 79mph (verified on road angel plus), where as the previous 1.000 was about 85-90mph (didnt check it exactly). The car potters around 30-40mph in 5th quite happily, and at 3.5-4k revs doing 40-45mph in 5th gear, if you press the go pedal, pick up is instant.

Is that yours m8? Doesnt sound like the box is warm as you can still hear the diff, or is it just poor oil? Trouble with that vid is you cant get any idea of speed/rev drop, also the noise from the exhaust is too overpowering, glad mine is standard!

Ya its crazy eh, thats 79mph on the Road Angel plus so 85mph on the clock. Its a great gear as it only drops 1.5k from 4th to 5th, but equally frustrating for its vtec engage point on the motorway. I find I drive much more calmly & sensibly with it which is a good thing.
Positive notes on the gears so far, acceleration of course, charging up through the gears is awsome, but also when you take your foot off the go pedal it slows down much quicker, handy for gatsos & fast driving. Steep hills in a lower gear and the car doesnt really speed up so it doesnt 'get away'.
Downside is cruising in 5th that I have mentioned but also it is noisy, 75mph feels & sounds like 95mph. I think that with this gearset if you had upgraded to a 4.78FD it would just be way too noisy (especially with an aftermarket exhaust). Petrol consumption is also up, over 70mph (gps) it increases slightly, then nearer the 79mph (gps) you can really notice it, Therefore if you do a lot of motorway then stick with the 1.000 5th.
I think whatever tuning you do to your car mpg will suffer so its a sacrifice.

I thought I would post up my actual cost from DMRR, I didnt know I could buy direct from MFactory at the time, as on their website it didnt give a postage option to UK, poor research I guess!

1.000 5th - £162.67 + vat @ £28.47!

1.695/1.384 3/4 - £356.81 + VAT @ £62.44!

Moral of the story buy direct..

Unfortunately, we are unable to ship directly to the UK/Ireland as DMRR are our exclusive distributor.

If you compare the costs from DMRR though, they are actually the same as if you were to order them directly from us:

3/4 Gear Set = $635 + $60 Shipping = $695 + 5% Duty = US$730 + VAT

3/4/5 Gear Set = $750 + $70 Shipping = $820 + 5% Duty = US$861 + VAT

:)

Ah I thought you could ship to us poor UK people! Seems there is a fair amount of interest in these gears now..

Cant argue there m8, looks like Babyface is now convinced!

;)
Mfactory Rocks!
Just wantto let all thats reading know, the amazing customer service mfactory offer. I had a few problems with prices here in the uk, and stephen, helped me clarify everyhitng with their uk distributor!
A Thank you to you my friend!

i'm thinking of getting the 3/4/5 kit i want a minimum of 130mph top speed which gear set would be best? with a 4.4 final drive

its not a daily drive and is used on the track a few times

also what sort of price range am i looking at for fitting the gear set in the uk?

cheers
mitch

the gear set is about 500 pounds delivered. The fitting is 4-5 hours labour i believe and the gearset you are after is the one i just bought :)
3rd: 1.695
4th: 1.384
5th: 1.000

Whats your location Mitch? I would say the 1.130 5th if it isnt a daily drive and you do several trackdays a year. Mine is still limited but I believe you would get 125mph, Imy on the teg forum has tested his.
When you getting fitted up Babyface? :nice:

i'm near sheffield.

its not a daily drive but do use it more on the road than track. i can get 120-130 at donington with the standard gears just dont want to be revin out half way down the straights

how much did tgm charge for fitting the gear set? if you dont mind me asking

cheers
mitch

Based on stock tyres and 8400rpm, with the 1.000 you would hit 133mph. With the 1.130 you would hit 118mph.

If you are doing 120-130, prob best with the 1.000 :)

^As said by Mfactory above, 1.000 would be more ideal for you m8 as Hiatchs set up is really short!!! Very quick aswell though ;)
My gearbox is open already m8, so Tom @ Tgm will just have to install them in.
Hiatch, the gears still have not arrived yet :(... shold be all done for the second week of April!
