Gearbox build first impressions..

Well, what can I say, you guys were all I needed to be convinced. I've just made payment for the gearset :) with the 1.000 5th. I need some cruising speed...

Can't wait :D

They are a busy place, best to ring and talk direct to the main man...Des.

forgot to ask whats the slight modification needed to casing on 4th gear

anyone know

cheers

The casing needs to be modified a little inside to allow the gear to fit i believe. HOwever, speaking to hiatch, that has the 1.384 4th gear installed, TGM (garage) had no probems fitting.

The clearance inside the case may not be sufficient enough for the extra diameter of the larger gear, hence why it may be necessary to remove a little material. Casings are cast though, so there are discrepancies between each casing, which is prob why hiatch didn't need the modification :)

just had mine fitted today

Mfactory
3: 1.695
4: 1.384
5: 1.000

been out in it tonight and think its good better for the twisty stuff as before was hard to keep in vtec mainly between 2nd to 3rd.

it does drop off a little in fifth compared to the other four gears but not to bad nearly the same as changing between 3rd and 4th on the standard box. it just seems alot as you go though the others so quick lol

will be on track soon so i'll post up some vids

Sounds good m8, the 1.000 5th as I have said is a compromise for road & track, I will be at Brands (11th Aug), & Combe (22nd Aug), if you want to sample the shorter 1.130. On a B road the gears are awsome as you are in the zone all the time and you dont need to beat the car so much. Where did you get it all fitted? :nice:

yeah the 5th is abit tall compared to the others but i think the 1.130 would be to short for the tracks near to me.

to be honest i think 3rd is slightly to short could do with being abit taller then the taller 4th with the 1.000 5th would be good

had it done at a place i know near to me he's really clued up with hondas its only a little garage

i'm going to book a trackday at cadwell at the end of august so i'll see how it goes on the track might do donington before but abit bored of going there

brands and combe are abit far for me, try and get some vids up of the days when youve been

cheers

Well most have seen my comments on others threads on the Exedy stage 1 clutch, mine is now BROKEN after ONLY 15k, including 2 trackdays, I am not hard on changing either. Should find out the extent of the damage over the next couple of days. The juddering had gotten worse over the last couple of weeks, not just at roundabouts at low speed but on a twisty road also.
After a 2hr trip to Rockingham for the HOT day, 5mins from the hotel I couldnt put it into gear changing down at a roundabout. I could change gear but had to be very gentle, I drove back the next 2hrs in 5th gear!
TGM are putting a standard clutch in, so should be ready for Brands on Thursday, cant wait to be judder free...

It drops bout 800k from second to third and top speed of 240km in 5th. It also helped mine do 1/4 mile in 6 flat and 0-100 in 14.1.

Check it out.

800k? It drops 800,000rpm between shifts? :p

Anyhow, it's more like 1900-2200rpm between shifts depending on the gear.

Unless you have about 1800bhp or some astronomical number, you aren't doing the 1/4 mile in 6 seconds... but I think you just got your numbers mixed up there... :drive:

Nice gearset, esp. for those who want to maintain a higher top speed and desire something less manic.

0-100 in 14.1 sounds just around right for a 1/4 mile time ;)

the thing I don't like about the ATS "close mission set (not cross)" is that they've sacrificed the "closeness" for higher top speeds, thus their shift points (rpm drops) have increased. Instead, what they should have done is fine tune the speeds with a different final drive ratio, rather than choosing to modify the actual gear ratios.

anyhow, biased aside, the ATS gearset is still a very good choice for those of you who require some jdm'ness :)
