Gearbox oil change

I recently got some more MTF94 from land rover, up in price now :(( Now £28 for 5L

I tend to buy 5L quantites as it leaves you with plenty to do 2 changes :)

This pictures shows where it is if looking from behind engine. If your looking in at engine in car, if you look directly down under where the air pipe from airbox or induction kit pipe if applicable fixes to throttle body its directly down from that.

Thanks a lot. Looks like a bit of a mare to get to!

Nah its actually pretty easy to get at once you take air pipe out of way and have a long extension bar to get down at the 10mm bolt holding it in place.

how much oil exactly will i need for my b18c6 gearbox it is conpletely dry from when i took the box off so i am not sure on how much i need to put back in :)

Hi guys, i was talking to my mechanic about it and Honda service centre themself and i can't get the Honda MTF oil anywhere do you think it would be ok to put a generic gearbox oil such as the Penzoil high performance fully synthetic oil ??

Would someone be so kind to just confirm this before i buy it? Land rover gear oil?

Just sounds a bit random

That's the stuff Dan. Stevenek9 gave me a hand changing my oil with that exact stuff that I picked up a few weeks ago :)

you can buy honda mtf in 1ltr bottles now . i can get you the part no if you wish .

very easy to change . below the o/s/f driveshaft is a drain plug . 3/8 drive ratchet to remove it and let the oil drain out . refit the plug then up beside the driveshaft you will see a 17mm headed bolt . remove that and fill with oil till starts to run out . re-fit bolt . job done .

you will need
3/8 ratchet
17mm spanner
funnel for re-filling

Muchos thanks John. Thats put me at ease!

If you can give me the part number that would be great. Is the MTF stuff equally as good for the gearbox? I was quite curious as to why landrovers stuff seems to be a popular choice. Seems a bit random? Will 2 litres suffice?

Sorry for the late reply . off on hols this week so aint on much .

the honda mtf is the stuff that is ment to be used in these gearboxes . i have been using it for years in my own and another 5 ek9s that i service .

i will get the part for you tommorow as its at work in my toolbox .

i have never used the landrover stuff due to never being to sure if it does the same job or not as ek9 boxes are very soft boxes if not using the correct oil .

you will need 3 litres as it will take around 2.5 ltrs

pm pe your number again as i dont have it anymore and il text the info the moz
