Had my 9 on the roller's this morning!!!

Well I've heard of both answers and economy is in there. No doubt it drinks more in high cam. Some of the tuners down here ridiculously set Vtec at 3000rpm. Sure they made power over stock after tuning etc but it doesnt tell how much it drinks.

3000rpm  ..is dangersous to the engine, Using this as the vtec engagement point shows little understanding of the dynamics of this engines oiling system.

Yeh, its mad! He's one of the well known tuners in AU as well... :(

A properly mapped ecu (e.g hondata, powerfc etc), even on a completely stock vehicle, with a lowered vtec point (to smooth out the transition from low to high cam) is more economical than the factory ecu settings, and that is fact.

So even if the High cam is activated say 4000rpm or below + tuned can be more efficient? Wow, I always thought it was the other way around. But what about if you have a modded engine with bigger cams? Especially the High cam lobe... are you saying that it will still run efficiently? Normally we have our locals setting their VTEC point up high at 7000rpm with say TODA C cams. They find with their tuning that it makes more power. Could you explain this?

yeh it is off... lol Sorry for hijacking JIMBOB.

No, you don't change the vtec to 4000rpm or below on a stock vehicle, that is just silly and I never said to do that.

What you want to do is find the optimum vtec point (by doing a graph crossover of the low cam and the high cam) and that is what you want to set it at to provide the smoothest power delivery and optimum setup.

Obviously the optimum point can vary depending on the setup of the car. Some setups will require a higher point, whereas some require a lower. It is not a fixed variable, and Honda certainly did not set the optimum point for the stock setup.

This is how my tuner determined my Vtec Point to be set at!

We did a run on just the low cam, then a run on just the high cam
Then ploted the graph's over each other to determaine the best point for the Vtec! which we found to be 5700rpm (on my car) as said befor could be diffrent for every car!

No need to say sorry guy's this is good info for everyone!:)

Yeh the lowest Ive seen with a JDM generic ECU is 4500rpm. Which is a putoff. I understand what you mean with optimum setup. There isnt much legroom in adjusting Vtec point with stock cams anyway. I mean, when we talk about how Honda set VTEC point up high for marketing purposes... There isnt much of a broad improvement if you know what I mean... like 500-800rpm between 5000-6000rpm most of the time with B-series? Most of the time in a race you dont fall that low with 9000rpm.

I would prefer to what HONDA did and take the Jolt feeling thank you very much :D

Great!

Uh..... no, there is.

So what exactly do you mean anyway?

Most of the people who drive Type-Rs don't "race." It would make sense from a driveability standpoint to get more power and a smoother powerband....and there are plenty of instances where you could fall below vtec in a competition environment. That 500-800rpm window does more than you allude. Traffic for instance, weather changes and for the vtec to be seamless, it is much easier to control in rainy conditions as well.

congrats on the results Jimbob! was that wheel or corrected engine HP ?

And damn man I like your bonnet! is your car a pre-facelift? where did you buy the bonnnet from? thanks

Thanks mate! that is corrected engine HP!

Yeah my car is a pre-facelift mate!
Well it's a funny story where i got it from!:)

About a month after i bought my car my mate with a S15 silva ordered a CF bonnet (not sure were from) & when i arrived it didnt fit all all, soon as we unpacked it i was thinkin to myself that look's like the shape of my bonnet!
Well it looked like that because it was for my car:nice: they had sent the wrong one! LOL (lucky me i supose)

Ill find out were it was from and let you know!

Great!

thats great mate

Wow - i woulda excpected around 205-210bhp @ the fly with the mods you have done - it seems like your mods havent done anything as it should make 195bhp standard!

My mates 10year old VTi-S EK4 made 162bhp @ the fly and thats about 4 or 5 more than stock - and his car is still stock!

I made around 15bhp over stock with just bolt ons and my b16a2 is around 8 years old and had around 80k miles at the day of the dyno!

Well i was expecting around the same but it didnt make that!
I not one for getting hung up on numbers though, i just wanted it setting up really!
Any way i ran a 13.9 @ 99.97mph in it a SANTA POD this weekend!
so im well happy with my 9:clap:

Congrats on the time JB, what tyres are you runing on that now? also... did you findout what make your bonnet is?

Was good meeting you, I was (and still am) absolutely shattered from the weekend & USC!

hi jimbob, did'nt you buy this engine from mikecrxsir? was'nt the engine from a uk integra type r that he broke? hence not as powerful as either jdm 96 and 98 spec @190 bhp standard.
