Help! Steering wheel is locked and key won't turn..

So yesterday i went to asda, when i came back out my steering wheel was locked and key wont turn but after moving it about my key turned.

Then today, it happened again but this time my key wont budge at all.. Got my dad to try as well and he couldn't get it either!

Got told this could be the steering lock or the ignition barel is fooked! I don't want to put too much strength into it incase it breaks lol any ideas?
 
Is this not down the barrel being worn out with age and not registering the key? Whats it like unlocking the car ?

I'm clueless lol i asked someone and he said that's a possibility.. Steering wheel is locked and won't move and key just doesnt turn, tried putting it in gears and all sorts and just won't turn :/ I hope its cheap to replace if thats the problem :angry2:
 
Try tapping end of key with a hammer,
And soaking inner lock in wd40/light lubricant.
 
I would keep playing with I've owned a few civics were it has done this. Try turning the wheel so it take weight off.

I'll give it another bash tomorrow.. I don't want to try so hard i snap the wheel off though lol :/

I was just checking about online and i've read a few comments saying use WD-40 and spray inside the key hole? Personally i don't want to try that as it sounds dodgy but Does anyone know if this would work or would it damage something?

Wd40 is just to lube the ignition barrel a bit. As long as you only use a small amount it'll be fine.
My steering lock sometimes catches and I have to take the weight off the key then it frees straight off.
 
Ill give wd40 a try tonight! What do you mean take the weight off the key?

Just gave it another try but doesn't matter how much I turn the wheel, the stubborn thing doesn't seem to budge :(
 
Just when the steering lock is on the key won't turn so it's a case of shaking the wheel til the key turns.
 
I've tried shaking and moving the wheel and all sorts, still doesn't move lol :( seen online try push the car abit cos that might help but still doesn't budge! Cars stress you out!
 
Sit in the passenger seat and put your foot in the steering wheel. Pull it hard with your hand as you push hard against it with your foot. That should snap your steering lock. At least then you can drive the car lol.

Was going to suggest snapping the lock lol my method is big bar wedged in the steering wheel and pull up or push down.
Abit destructive but get the job done lol
 
^ what he said , you will snap the steering lock before anything else , if wiggleing back and forth wont do anything id say it is down to the barrel but i could be wrong might be the steering lock it self , have look at a diagram and take it apart ,

Haha would it affect the driving or that if I break it? How much would it cost to replace it?
 
So i just got home and gave it another try! This time i used WD40 and WOOOP it actually worked! lol so i think maybe the barel is fooked, i'll get it checked when i can :) Cheers for the help guys :thumpsup:
