i know this is like asking how long is a piece oif string but my EK9 which i got 6 weeks ago is standard apart from cat back and stripped rear seats spare wheel etc and it is in need of a service badly as the oil is black as coal and the previous owner has in grade 6 plugs that are now black as sin!

i raced a ek sir with induction decat and cat back and we were side by side :nono: i just thought a type r is on paper 20bhp more so how is this hopefully some iridium plugs and a good oil change will bring back a few ponies but still i was a bit shocked:((

and the lad said that hes bet type rs before by a 2-3 car legnths which i really would nearly believe!

HOW IS THIS GUYS

well i got beat at crail by a vti and i had a spoon mani/decat/spoon b pipe/n1 and induction discovered a couple days later however my manifold was cracked at one of the top welds:angry: so that was my problem. Give her a good service plugs\filters gear oil etc and see how you go from there. That is probably the problem mate by the sound of it:nice:

thanks for replys guys rep added:clap:

yeah hopefully with a good oil change and iridium plugs shell be a bit brighter:nice:

ya is it possible that my standard mani could be blown or would i not hear this?

you'd be able to hear it man, if your oil and plugs are that black get it all changed asap not really good for the car either. Get yourself some good quality oil and plugs, cant go wrong with oem parts for filters etc and you will notice the difference. Give your air filter a good clean out as well and you'll be jammin :nice:

hi i had the same sort of experiance, apart from it was a del sol.I raced it and it kept up with me until i got to 120, then i started to pull away. It was completely standard all by a back box and my ek9 has got a cat bac and a hks drop in panel filter. I was shocked, is it because its a lighter car?

some ek9's have just had a hard life and are not making near there standard figure

any blue smoke out the back or CEL's?

yeah i got a new air filter from my local factors on saturday as the old one was well black with dirt! im awaiting arrival of a hamp oil filter and denso iridiums from bsp imports here on this site so it should be back to standard health again:nice: then after a while gearbox oil and fuel filter will be for changing! then decat:nice:

well it does burn a small amount but only a small amount of oil but maybe thats just cause it needs a service? what are cel's???:nerv:

no thank god:nice: ill just get oil and plugs changed and can only go from there:nice:

i timed 0-100kmh last week just with the phone stop watch so not completely accurate but got 7.3seconds and 100kmh-160kmh (3rd gear srart) 8.8 seconds these figures seem reasonable?:nerv:

i wegh 95kg and i notice just having a friend in the car at aprox 110kg it makes an waful diference? weight and the type r dont mix it seems! if i didnt like havin *** orhaving friends then i would love to rip out the passenger seat recaro :)

get a set of iridium plugs

BKR6EIX-11

and a good quality oil like castrol, motul or silkolene with a HAMP oil filter

also if your using a standard airbox get something like a spoon replacment panel filter

and a genuine honda feul filter

couple of months back i got raced by a eg civic with a b16A2 engine with usual mods (decat, s/s exhaust, air filter etc...) also was decked to the floor. A long story short he over took me in a stupid place so i followed him an i had no probs passing him and he was really going for it. spoke to the lad after an he was not to bad an was just curious if my car was a real Ek9. now i am sure eg civics are lighter than the 9s?!

give it a good service and change al fluids etc. smoke and loss of power can be caused by many things. try checking these out:

Valve clearances (very important) may cause oil consumption
right spark plugs/ spark plug gaps
dizzy
clean inlet manifold if your air filter is black (may have carbon deposits etc)
clean throttle body (smoother excelerating/ less sticky)
check compression!
check valve seals (oil consumption

i did these and found it definitely had more get up and go and ran much more smoothly. if it still burns oil then maybe you need new piston rings.

thanks for repky man ya after the oil change and plugs change ill see how it runs:nice: and give a b16a2 another run for their money and see how i get on in my standard form:)

yeah an eg would be lighter id say mate! ef civics are the tits though:nerv:

lol thats alright mate. valve clearances i found made a big difference. yeh you should be able to be faster than those cars. i admit it took slightly longer to over take the B16a2 eg than other cars but i had a good lead by the end of it till i hit my limiter (still restricted).

also you could try cleaning your fuel injectors and run some proper fuel such as V-power. its a known fact that over time injectors work less efficiently. i replaced mine with RC310 injectors but waiting on more funds to have all my mods mapped by dastek.

forgive me for bein useless:(( but what are valve clerancers???:please:

ya ill run that system injector cleaner through it and i would use vpower but we dont have it in ireland:(( octane booster is expensive to use the whole time:angry:

I have a B16A4, making reasonable power after a tune up, more than some 16Bs actually. I think your spark plugs @ 6 heat range should not be black, infact it should be whitish.
Black indicates super rich setting and you may well be losing in excess of 20HP from my previous dyno run experiences.
Stock ECU pour on fuel and usually drop to around 11.8-12.1 in the upper RPM, it was in my case anyway.

Oh, add half a bottle of Redline SI-1 to a tank of fuel, do 2 tanks to clean up the injectors - made a huge difference to response and power on mine.

The car you raced may have had an ECU - did he tell you?

It is my little hidden secret, it is in the tune.

no dont think he had an ecu!

i could swear i read that ek9s should use grade 7 plugs maybe the grade 6 is just dirty from not been changed for a long time by previous owner??

ya maybe a dyno power run wouldnt be the worse idea?:nice:
