how come some sir/vtis are as quick as a type r and even faster

standard 99 silver coupe.. doesnt really stand out! what your ek9 look like may have seen it knockin about?

just like most of them white with original alloys ive only had it 6 weeks but i ised to have a silver glanza with white 15s and trd written on windscreen many quick civics around ballina lately?

theres a 00 ek9 knocking round with the last few weeks dunno who owns it though..few vtis, other than that just the usual 1.4's!

is there still a red eg around? ya its gone **** everywhere lately were ya at the rally over the weekend?

i kept up with a few ek9s (both on this forum :p) when my car still had a b16a2 with IHE mods.

End of the day there both 1.6 dohc vtec engines, power difference between the jdm b16a and 16b isn't really that much so can't expect to pull away from him to easily. Have you a decat fitted? I found fitting a decat free'd up some top end power

i have a b16a2 stil in my car and it has an integra box, full exhaust and others bits and its a pretty quick wee car sitting at 172.4bhp and ive raced a few german cars with more bhp and kept up lol

sure one night i camt up to an itr, both had a passenger and i passed him on, just after i met a Vti and we were deaad even, i dnoo is it driver or engine, maybe its just how the cars feeling lol. some ones are qiuck some ones are slow, your never gonna hammer a sir or vti like you should, but yould always pass on the old dude in his 320d lol

After racing a few sir civics at the drag racing on sunday I was able to pull away from them easily even if they got a better start than me.

Afterwards I was speaking to the owner of the sir ek hatch, his car had a bit of work done and he mentioned manifold, exhaust, filter etc it was also re-mapped and he said that it was a very healthy sir and made well over standard power.

He told me that he had raced a few ek9s that he was either the same or slightly faster than but he had never came across a 1.6 ek9 that went as well as mine. Not trying to be big headed but it all depends on how the car has been looked after over the years and choosing the right mods aswell as servicing is also very important!

Get a good service and have a look threw the engine with a mechanic! 1 a my friends has a sir eg6 (there is a big enough spec on it) and he pissed all over a dc5!
Hope you get the power your looking for out of her lad!!:nice:

Suppose it depends on an awful lot of variables, driver reaction times, mod’s done to car etc.
I have a completely standard 1997 civic sir (as it left the factory). It dynoed @163bhp and shortly after I did a 16.03 quarter mile which was my best time. The same day I raced a pretty standard looking ek9, I was ahead the whole race until the very end where he piped me by a little over a car length.
(Of coarse I’m just sharing my experience with you not saying this is what usually happens just giving an example)

At the end of the day each car (and driver) is different but generally the ek9 would be quicker than the ek4!

You should also take your car onto a drag strip to get the times as the stop watch wouldn’t be the most accurate way of determining the 0-60 speed on a roadway :nice: good fun too!

when i was at cadwell last thursday my completely standard EK9, it was fractionally quicker in a straight than a stripped out b16a EG with semi slicks, Manifold and some other ****.

Would say I probably out handled him a bit(lsd pwns)

again comes down to drivers but i thought the ek in a straight would pull away more than it did.

And i was running on 95ron fuel as no where had super unleaded or v-power :(

my mate jody had a b16a2 EG, completely stock other than a new manifold and exhaust system and he was beating ek9's consistantly & teg typeR's ..... made no sense at all... it had 120k on the clock and pulled like a train! no idea how :S

EK9's don't have the original 185bhp because of lower octane fuel than in Japan. So difference wouldn't be like 25bhp, more like 15-20bhp. It's a little heavier than an EG6 and if the EG6 also has some mods....it will be a close call.

By the way, 7.2 from 0-60 is dramatic imho if that is the best you got with a proper or perfect launch. With a not perfect launch I get 7 seconds 0-60 from my B16A EG5 with intake and exhaust mods. Few possible reasons:
- Phone dyno can be inaccurate, AFAIK most phones have a GPS receiver that only check once a second for the GPS signal, which makes the error margin theoretically a second. Besides that, if it has a accelerometer, it's not yet clear how accurate those are
- Your launch was far from perfect (that can easily cost you 0,5 seconds or more)
- Your car is f00ked in some way

no lad but will be my first mod:nice:

thanks man:nice:

i didnt really launch the car so yes i could of had better take off and it was a stop watch i used in the organiser menu of my phone! so not 100%accurate and tahts not very far behind the ek9s 6.9seconds 0-100kmh stated time!?
and ive just started another thread abot my exhaust pipe bein dented which could be reducing my exhaust flow:angry:
but yes a good service with good iridium plugs and a decat fitted soon and i should feel a more positive power delivery from the car:nice:

Like mentioned they rarely if ever, make the quoted 185BHP over here in UK.

Most make between 165-175BHP depending on engine condition etc. Mine made 168BHP completely stock and would pull on EK4's/EG6's without to much of a bother. I had the stripped interior/IHE/flywheel etc in the end.

Get yourself a B18CR in there and watch how much you smoke EG6's. Make them look silly.

Saying that, dont concentrate too much on the power, having a nice chassis set up is very rewarding on these cars, any car for that matter but the simplest mods make the EK9 a riot on decent roads. Beautifully balanced car.

B18 in a nice touch though, gives the car an even bigger advantage. The chassis is capable of alot more then a B16B has to offer.

when i bought my ek9 first it was slow only making low 160s in the dyno obviously not having been serviced properly driven hard when cold.the dyno opertator said he thought it was electrical fault like knock sensor but could never get a code.sir civics had no problem beating my car down.so i just threw out the engine bought one from a 00 crashed ek9 with 100k genuine kms on it back to the dyno and made 179.8bhp.fitted a mugen airbox and then spoon n1 and made 184.6 tuned on apexi neo. so then had no problem beating down on sir and even some itrs!id say a rebulid would do world of good, sounds like the engine is just tired.
i recently took an ek4 sir in on a trade in and its marginally faster than my friends ek9 which is no slouch either.its just luck, you get good ones and bad ones.
