Hi.

Really been wondering.
How do you cope with your exhaust systems in the UK?
Do you get any special reports from your local work shops ?
What laws surround it ?

I am asking cause i feel so stupid having my car in my country Cyprus.
I just cannot drive my car in this country. Everywhere i go , there is police looking for Hondas with exhaust systems.

How illegal and in fashion ?
I have passed my car through the M.O.T test a month ago. (Ofcourse approved by the Goverment). Valid until 2014.
Well today i received a letter that my car needs to go again to the Authorities to be inspected again. If not ,after 21 days they will write off the car and that is stated clearly ! Bare in mind i live and work abroad , and the car is being kept in my garage ! I only take it out in the weekends when i am home.

Also there is no one authorised from the goverment , work shops that can give you a report that your exhaust meets the standards...

Well where else can this happen ? Only in Cyprus ...

Any comments ? :please:

It's fine here but occasionally you'll see VOSA vans out and about sound testing cars. It's all a load of bollocks as there is no defined 'limit', they just pick on loud cars, but TBH I don't disagree with them. Most of the ones they get the cars are too loud, (not even a nice sound, just flat out loud) and usually being driven anti-socially.

So has someone just reported your car and now you have to take it in without anyone even testing it? Sounds a bit harsh.

Keep the noise/ revs down and keep a lid on it round built up areas save it for quiet country roads/ tracks and motorways.. I do get some hassle in my impreza with it's miltek 3" 'quiet' system I get followed by police if I go into town but I keep it off boost and below 2000 rpm and they usually get bored

+1 on that, with my 9' its really quite loud when opened up so through towns and built it areas usually keep it to low revs steady away so I don't give the Police an excuse to pull me over.

Car is always driven very slowly around the city and neighborhoods for sure ...
I only pull on motorways and abandoned places but its just Cyprus , desperate to do anything to get money , to save their b****s from the Eu support mechanism ..:)

never had trouble with the police, most my cars have been loud. just driveit normal until back roads and then test it out :) my mate got stopped by vosa and he had a standard corsa, they did him for his HID's and number plate. He didnt have a BS standard code on them, suppose its about lucky.

i use silencer most of the time and also have that electronic butterfly that closes the exhaust from the inside of the pipe when i see cops my car has oem sound :p

As said, keep the revs as low as possible. I've had the pleasure of being asbo'd in my previous Civic due to the noise, and the current ones been impounded before  This makes me look like a boy racing lout, but a de-silenced Spoon N1 is pretty loud!

I've been pulled over 100 of times but as a police officer said to me when he pulled me with a spec 3 "your lucky there isn't a law for car exhaust or I would be giving you a ticket, then he Tryed fining me for my number plate I said I'm going to court streight Away and only ended up with if I see u again with number plate I will give you a ticket, did I change it did I fcuk

I can understand if your screaming around in V-tec mode, but driving slowly seams a little harsh...
What system are you runnung at the moment?
Don't think there is a set limit for open roads, but certain race track allow upto 98db for track days...
If all fails just stick an exhaust bung, crude but may keep the noise down a little.
:angry2:

You can actually fail an MOT for your exhaust noise being "clearly in excess of the original vehicles exhaust system"

You would have to find a knob of a tester to fail u for it though ive never seen it happen.

I've had hassle in the past but my exhaust was stupidly loud, no cat, no silencers, 2.25" system with a 4" back back. I didn't have it like that for long, it annoyed me so I can understand why the coppers pulled me. Now I'm much more reasonable, I got 86db on a static 4k rev test at Donington at the weekend. I think it depends how you drive as well, if you are drawing attention to yourself by putting your foot down they are more likely to try and find a fault with the car, if you drive sensibly then they seem to let things slide.

i genuinely wish i had the standard exhaust on my car

Hi.
I went down the Authorities yesterday morning for them to test my car.
Bare in mind i have fitted the catalyst , the oem airbox (half of it) , ek9 oem middle pipe and a "chinese" small catback. They just tested the noise levels by ear ! , then the usual M.o.t tests where they put the car to test the axles etc ... and cleared to go.

I asked a man there what was the purpose of this quic re-check of my car , he said a civilian called the police about your car , that he though it was modified !!!! God bless us all here in Cyprus ...

At the moment im running 5Zigen 4-2-1 Header , buddyclub test pipe (custom fitted) and Greddy n1 ? Exhaust (It has 2 barrels at the bottom for sounding , you need to get in vtec for it to scream). My current sound test at the Mot 1,5 month ago was 96 db.

Why not get one then? Best thing I did with mine was getting rid of the ghastly Tanabe for a stock EK9 system, it didn't end up costing me anything once the 'Narb was sold. :nice:

just dont stop so ya cant get given out to :p ya just go easy around the place and i cant see a reason for them to be bothering ya :)
