Guys,

Thinking of kswap on our EK9, but I am wondering, how reliable is a kswap compared to building up a high comp b series, what are the fragile items of the swap if any any?

I need to the car to be reliable, it will see at least 1 trackday a month, and be used my two of us, so will be on track most of the day.

Cheers
Jay

You'd be better off with the k20.

I used to run a b16b, then went to high comp b20 on itbs, then standard k20 with the usual bolt ons + map.

K20 any day. Had it running over a year, no problems apart from a snapped driveshaft the day after a day at knockhill (it was on entry level driveshafts) - Some Dss 2.9s sorted this. :nice:

IMO B16B is bullet proof, B18C ok upto 210 BHP, K20 conversion you have the issue with lots of aftermarket bodged up products just to get it in and running that have increased chance if failing/breaking.

OEM is def best for reliability. Spend your £'s on a big 300mm brake setup and some Yoko AO48 tyres, plate LSD :)

Cheers Wazer. Deffo looking at DSS shafts.

Cheers Dunc, but we need more power and the car is pretty well setup, its a Civic Cup EK9 built by SW.

I've a high comp b18c been on a few track days with no problems at all and has more than enough power

Get some of Rmotions custom shafts. They have used them in their race cars with no issues! mine has been perfect on track.

Just get the oil panbaffled

You don't need a baffled pan, I've done most tracks in UK and never noticed a dip in oil press.. And my digi dash is accurate to .1 psi .

Even on Knockhill, the first right hander which drops down the hill - I'm taking at about 80 and it doesn't dip.

Imo it's a hype...

I heard great things about the R motion shafts to, sadly they had none in Stock when I was needing a set, otherwise I would of gotten them :nice:

Cheers for the comments guys. I have seen the rmotion shafts but obviously asking you guys on what's more reliable as that's the key for me. I never baffled the oil pan in my DC5 but that was road/track car, I would on the kswap as we will possibly look at using slicks too.

Thinking of DC5 gbox and K20A2. Most likely going Solid Fabs manifold and 3" exhaust.

Any other recomendations on other parts of the swap?

Thanks
Jay

I've run Dunlop cut slicks in the past, Car has a 12 point weld in cage and running ohlins coil overs, which are damn stiff haha:p

Sounds similar to ours Wazer. For money i might as well get it baffled whilst its out.

So my parts list is this so far. What do you guys reckon? Im trying to balance out cost vs reliability of good parts, car runs no ABS etc, so I've read some parts are more designed to clear ABS AIRCON etc. Only started looking at this on Monday so i might be on the wrong track, correct me if i am please.

K20A2
K20A Box
OEM Clutch
Fidanza Fly Wheel
Sold Fabs 4-2-1 Manifold
Solid Fabs 3" Exhaust
Rmotion EKK2 Mounts
Rmotion Drive Shafts
Rmotion ECU conversion harness
DC5 shifter box
Hybrid Racing Short Shifter
Rmotion DC5 Shifter cables
Aeromotive FPR
Custom Intake
Kpro

What am I missing guys? Or is there anything there that is better quailty from elsewhere?

I am to be honest going to get my mate to do this all this as I need it doing by June so i can test on a UK trackday before my 2 day track day at the Ring in July (needs to be 100% before I go), but still taking a big interest in what parts I want to use.

Thanks
Jay

Thought of a plated diff and/or final drive?

Diff is definitely one of the best upgrades I've done. I'm off to the ring end of June!

Your list is about right though - assuming you have all the eg/dc2 front end bits

Not yet mate, Was thinking EP3 box with FD and Plated Diff they go for around £1000 same price as a stock DC5 box.

What do you run or recommend?

Don't have any EG/DC2 bits, is that the Subframe / Rack etc? Not exactly sure what I need. I think trying to get it done for June 1st might be a struggle.

Awesome when are you going? We are doing DN 2 day Trackday on 2nd & 3rd July.

You wont need the dc5 shifter box and hybrid short shifter, the hybrid kit is a bolt in/ no cut job so it doesn't need the dc5 part. otherwise everything else seems good.

Have you seen a site called hondaswap.co.uk? or something like that, when you buy parts they give you credits which is like money, so you can get money off next shop.. seems like you could probably save some money that way if your buying brand new.

Cheers for that link mate.

What do we think to K-tuned packages, seem quite comprehensive?

K-Tuned Swap Package Level Four (Turn Key) - K-Tuned Packages - Package Deals - K-Swap Parts

Best way to go pal, currently running a spoon 1,5 way and 5.065 fd

Rips through the gears.. Yeah, subframe, rack, lower control arms, suspension forks.

Easily get it done for then mate. I did mine just on weekends last year (as i was working in the week down south), and I had completely refreshed the interior and engine bay.

Hope it all works out for you :nice:

Jay get a clutch place diff for sure, i run a 1.5 way and have a great vid showing how good it is if you want it?

Thanks mate, fingers crossed. :)

Yeah mate that would be good to see.

By the sounds of it, its probably worth me getting a EP3 box, plate diff, and FD. They seem to go for £1000 which is near enough same money for a low mileage DC5 box.

Cheers

Looks good Lee, thanks for the video.

How low can you go with a K-Swap, you will see our 9 is slammed to the floor.

It is still so tempting to go and add a B18 crack and rods, and then some cams, springs, injectors, and p28 mapped. Just seems so much less work, and all our bushes are poly, upgrade gear linkages etc, We would have to refurb all the DC2 / EG parts used, upgrade the bushes etc.
