Very good man i get ya but i doubt anyone will give you abuse if it blows you have already stated that this is a learning curve an ur doin great man haha jus incase u thought it was a dig :p But like u say you have to try it to learn :drive:

Oh an P.S to the other fellas ud swear i started war haha i jus gave my opinion whats with the **** the haters no ones hatin on the man

I'm sure that wasn't aimed at you. More so advice to myself about possible critics jumping on a bandwagon should I break something expensive.
I'm not too worried about what they've got to say but it will effect the chances of a career move in the future if nobody will trust me with their engines knowing I'd destroyed mine.

Hoping to get out on track this month or early next. Going to end up missing half of track season

I for one will not. It was something i always wanted to do but didnt. I changed parameters in the map but never the map itself.
10 out of 10 for effort.
Looking forward to the dyno tuning.

Thanks bud. I'm sure people that understand the complexity and that learning takes abit of time will be fine. It's mainly Facebook I think, hence keeping it a little quiet over on there lol

Mate your mad ! You never even came into my mind for I second when I wrote that post , I said **** the haters in general, man talk about jumping the gun.

How else do you learn like? I wouldn't worry much about a few people on a forum in terms of a future career move, Keep at it.

Mate Facebook is the school yard with all the child brains and wana be hard men, only you will never see them .
The worst site is type r owners club , wow they are f#ck wits , don't know why but they are all ep owners lol

Been away awhile (few days) this must be the first time my build threads been 4 pages down the most recent list. Good times!
So had a sticky rear brake caliper I've noticed since I've been on the brakes alot tuning.
Decided I'd try my luck and fit new slider pins as I dont fancy paying out for new calipers yet.

Still have sticky calipers... lol
Got my new wideband, it's a portable unit so it's easily transferable between cars and does all fancy tricks like datalog, code reader etc I got this to test the aem wideband.
Innovate lm2.

Turns out after I dunked the aem sensor into a can of petrol whilst hot it now reads correctly....Or atleast close enough.
I've got datalogs of the old tune reading 10.5-1 before I even added 10% extra fuel whilst I was testing. Now it reads close to 11-1.
Either way I'll continue the tune on the new wideband to get used to using it.

This week's issue however has been knock monitor related.
Quick background on what the monitor actually does...
Essentially it's a stethoscope for an engine, I'm listen for a tick/knock/ping noise that's characteristic of detonation(kills engines fast) now I've been getting a noise very similar to this but due to the overly conservative tune I'm running atm I know for a fact it can't be detonation. This leaves me stuck for tuning the ignition timing because if I'm getting a false reading through the headphones now, how will I know what a true reading is?
I've tried everything over this past few days to try and clear this static type noise that comes through the headset from around 6k upwards.
Very frustrated yesterday because I was sure I'd tried everything I could think of. Then I tried something new today, basically the unit has a setting that you can use for really noisey race engines. So I gave that a shot on my conservative tune and the static noise is completely gone! Just beautifully filtered engine noise through the headset! I've not tried inducing detonation yet to confirm I've actually fixed the issue but quietly confident as that's the first time I've had a completely clear sounding run through the headset. Tomorrow I'll be getting a little more aggressive with it on low boost and we'll see how it goes. I've got rough figures in my head that I can use as a guide so fingers crossed!
I've also noticed I've built up a far bit of equipment already lol

Sounds good Jesse, looks like you're on top of it.
You can never have enough equipment!
Looks like mission control!

I'll be honest this has been my toughest issue so far. Felt beat about it yesterday but much more enthusiastic after today's experiments.
I'm just hoping I can pick up the knock when it starts happening during tomorrow's tuning otherwise I am stumped for an answer to it.

Yeah lots of equipment needed to tune an engine properly, as we've found out you can't trust an old afr gauge to be accurate enough to tune safely. The innovate you calibrate in free air to check the sensors all good. Can confirm the o2 content of my garage is 20.9% so that's not the reason I'm a little mental lol
Hopefully I'll have a happy update tomorrow.

Jesse what about the little clip on thingy that clips to any wire to cancel out static, you can buy them in any electronic store?
In fact I got one with a camcorder once.

tech mad in this thing. In my experience sliders don't solve sticking calipers always turns outto be the piston, well that's my issue everytime.

Yeah, bit of wet and dry around the piston and should be ok.

The static type noise I speak of I'm assuming is just some mechanical noise that's not been filtered out by my original settings on the monitor. Atleast I'm hoping that's the case.

Right issue fixed. 1.1bar tuned and safe.
Debating more boost but stock sleeves and valve springs are my main concerns.
Had a play with some of the other features today, my favourite being the Anti-Lag Launch Control!
engine can hold 0.8bar of boost on the start line, whistling it's tits off and banging the limiter lol
I'll get a video for you guys, sounds great! I may even put the antilag on a switch on the dash and then trip the switch for a rolling antilag, perfect for tunnels or teasing exotics....
Looking to book a track evening at brands and get the car on the dyno.

That sounds very cool mate glad you got the issues sorted :) videos are a must

I'll see what I can do for videos today. Might just add a few more psi into the mix aswell whilst I'm there but I must get the valve springs changed soon and not hit full power toooo much.

So I tried to get a little bit of extra boost into the car today. Wasn't happening, the weather was too bad and the cars too powerful for pulls in 3rd. Means I need enough space to get through the rev range in 4th whilst being able to eyeball the AFRs.
