J's Intake gains?

i wa speaking to a good tuner from ireland he says there useless on ek9,one of the worst.he says stock airbox and mugen airbox are the best.

yeah I thought so, becuase i bought a j's racing intake and put it on my car and it feels like it struggles to take in air. and on top of that i notice its using more fuel. :((, i feel so disappointed

Surely it depends on the cars use.
Daily driven ~ Track ~ etc

well its for daily driving, there are the benefits that J's did list like more torque on lower end and so, but yeah on high end struggles ><

maybe I've done something wrong with my setup?.. I havent run a cool intake pipe from bumber to intake so maybe thats another reason.. but yeah from a standard intake to J's intake it really is taking in more fuel

I'd personally try resetting the ECU and go from there, if its still the same then....... meh I dunno to be honest.
Stick to OEM maybe..

well thnx Bon87 really appreciate ur feed back.. I really hope I can fix this problem :D

i thought ur j's intake woulda been gd alot of people go 4 them it seems i jus replaced my stock filter with a spoon replacement an 2bh i dnt notice a difference.

I think ill take some photos and post it tomorow :) I think i know why its using more fuel, its because the design of the J's intake (known as the whales p3nis in AUS) has a wider center and air that is moved to there is converted to a Low pressure and once moved closer to the throttle its an High pressure am I making any sense ? well thats what i have reseached after reading jugbugz write up

The reason why your car struggles is a result from actually taking in a bigger volume of air than your ECU is set for. When we deviate from factory parameters, the ECU doesn`t function as it`s programmed to. Optimal thing would be get a remap and adapt your ECU to the new data. Big volume of air will only make your engine run lean, your ECU will read that and try to compensate with more gas to correct the inbalanced A/F ratio, thus increasing your fuel consumption. If i`m wrong someone correct me.

I have an eg9 with a b16b and ive had various intakes on it including oem, short ram, aen v2, top fuel, and most recently the j's intake now it is by far and i mean far superior to the rest the low down and high end power improvement is amazing you need to see it in action to believe it oh and the sound it makes is great to absolute grunt.. Anyone who disagree's hasnt had one on there car...

I agree with Colin89, gains were noticeable straight away when I fitted mine. One of my best mods by far.

wellz sorry no photo due to girlfwend borrowed it ><..

BUT!.. I believe i might have found my problem... well before my J's intake I usually didnt drive my car hard all of a sudden when i got the intake i started thrashing the crap out of it.. so thats why second, when i was test driving it i basically did not let the engine warm up and by thrashing the crap out of it. So much heat was building quickly inside the engine bay so thats what happened.

but now im starting to feel the + effects of the intake and now LOVING IT!.. wake up everyday knowing im driving my car with a lovely Carbon intake muahaha!..

THNX for the help everyone much appreciate the feed back :D

Not far from the truth i reckon...

All these filters/kits with an open filter are SO suceptible to heat soak & loss of torque....same effect as driving with your standard airbox lid removed. Sounds a million dollars, but throttle response & torque go walkabouts:angry:

The Honda R&D boys did a very good job with the standard setup

i have to be honest when i tried one on mine (granted it wasnt mapped to have an intake) but it felt so laggy, slower and just no throttle response, did sound like the devil tho! ive stuck with a OEM airbox with resonator removed and replaced with a solid pipe (like the spook direct air flow pipe) and a spoon drop in filter, best way IMO! that or a DC2 stock intake is meant to be a good mod!

Best setup is OEM with Panel Filter and resonator removed

IN my Opinion

X2,

not long ago i ditched my j's intake for the same set up as dunsy just mentioned,

a big improvement all round:nice:

With any mods, Tuning is needed.

Stock box would work better since stock ecu was programmed for it.

If we're comparing design and potential, EK9 stock box is crap compared to DC2 anyway.

on my b16 a i've used the stock airbox wit the resionator still in, j's intake, itr air box and the mugen air box

from best to worst it was

mugen air box

itr air box

j's intake

standard airbox.

there was very little betwwen the mugen airbox and the itr airbox. if i had of had a proper feed set up the would probably be even:shocked:

And did you tune the ECU every time you used another air intake? ;) Can you show us the results?
