Hey was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Jun stage 2 cams? was thinking of gettin a set from the states but was wondering if they would still be ok for road use?

It all depends how hardcore you want to go for a road car but anything really will be fine on road "engine performance wise"....

well performance wise just now its got a full spoon system and a aem v2, but ive got a skunk2 inlet mani and toda throttle body comin over. I'd be running a hondata s300 ecu just will be next year till its set up as its off the road for the winter. So the cams should be fine then? will i need valves as well as retainers?

Yes mate if your gonna run stage 2 cam's of any make i would get uprated valve springs and retainers, adjustable pulleys, and look at maybe making the comperssion higher and may be some head work porting, high comp valves, bronze valve guides etc

True i'll look into those things aswell be aswell do the job right! but was wondering if anyone else is running similar stage 2 cams and what kind of performance increases they were gettin?

I've got a set of these on the way over from Japan now, for my B16....I'll let you know how they are when they arrive :D

cams themselves wont do much

for stage 2 i'd be looking at
uprated valvesprings and retainers
adj cam gears
re-mappable ecu(hondata etc)
some headwork(P&P etc)
thinner headgasket to bump compression

this is presuming you have got the essentails already such as intake/header/exhaust/decat pipe

and a good tuner because thats most important

have you considered going for a 4.9fd and/or gearset?id be doing that first mate

good luck:nice:

yeh ive got all those things got a full spoon system with decat and an aem v2. Got sum other things coming aswell, by bumping up the compression using a thinner haed gasket still b ok with the std pistons?

What compression ratio are you running ? Jun recommend 12:1 for these cams. You will need a bigger set of injectors as well. Also i wouldnt worry to much about the head porting if you have a b16b, just make sure you have good valve train mate (stick with Jun there really good).

those cosworth cams are great but work better with alot more compression! :nice:

the car is running std compression just now. So how to up it to make it the 12:1 recommened? if i do get these cams i was goin to get jun retainers and valve springs

12:1? change your pistons.

forget Jun cams unless you're getting them at a really good price. There are other alternatives from Skunk2 or hell, even blox "produces" good cams now because they copy their lobes from reputable engine developers like Jun.

Rocket M22X is a good cam and so are their valvetrain components.

Yeh but then you can't put a Jun sticker on the underside of your bonnet

Ok then i can get the cams and reatiners for just over £1000 which i thought wasnt to bad. Are the skunk ones goin to give me the same performance gain or less than the Jun ones?

The Skunk2 ones will give the same if not better performance. They have their own profiles and ramp rates which can trump the Jun3 if properly matched to the build.

If it was me i would go for Jun, the quality of there stuff is excellent.

3 blind mice syndrome anybody?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying JUN is bad quality or doesn't perform... I would just choose to spend my money elsewhere since in order to get the most out of these cams, you need compression and if you don't want to dig into your motor - then at least have a proper fueling/engine management system so you can dynotune them

I would hardly call it 3 blind mice syndrome....., I can only speak for myself, but I assumed the purchase of cams pretty much came hand in hand with tunable engine management system, otherwise it's dangerous quite frankly.

In my earlier post I in no way said that cams were the best way to spend your money, but for NA tuning and high end power...it would certainly be one of my first recommendations. I was merely stating I opted for Jun over Skunk and other options for one....because it was available to me at a decent price, two, Jun are one of the most reputable and renowned Japanese manufacturers of engine parts and produce extremely good quality high end products; three, it was my own personal preference.....it was by no means a 'follow the leader approach'

Just to clear things up :D

At the end of the day, it depends on a number of factors, power targets, budget, preference, etc etc

ok maybe i'll give them a go then. I'll away and lookk at sum prices for them. Cheers guys:)
