I'm undecided to put either a K20 or a B18 into my EK9, what are your thoughts???

If money was no object and only had performance in mind and didn't want more then 240bhp and wanted as reliable as possible the K20a would be the obvious choice. B18 is a very easy and cost effective conversion and you will have a very quick car to trouble most 2.0liter turbo cars.

You need to give us more info about what your looking to achieve.

This is a common question, try searching through, your gaurenteed to find some anwsers.

As said k20 is a great setup for the 220-230 hp range with a lot of torque and a 6speed gearbox.
But You can also make a B18 at the same hp by changing some parts ( for reliability and performance ) with the extra money you'll have to spend into the k20 swap purchase and conversion.

^ x2 for the price of a K swap you could make a beast of a B18 with half the effort

Right so b18 looks like the easiest and cost effective choice. I've been saving for ages now and hav 10k to buy and mod the car. It will be used ocasionally as a track car bt will also be my daily driver, so I'm wanting as much reliable performance gain that I can get for my money. Any ideas?

For a daily, I'd def say high comp B18!! I've heard of a lot of issues (fitment/driveshafts/ancilaries/etc) surrounding K20 swaps, whereas the B18 would just drop straight in. Then all you need to do is get it tuned properly!

Just make sure you find a reputable tuner to do the work...

go out in something with a k20 swap and actually see what its like before you pour any money into a b series mate ;)

Agreed!!! I just purchased a 2007 civic si (US) and i have too say it is one of the smoothest car/motor/tranny i"ve ever driven, my ek may be a bit faster but it is also lighter so i can only imagine what the k20 would be klike in that car

well in a civic 2002 and up of course that's the way to go with k20 type r but
i have a friend that is doing a k20 swap to a ek US civic he is the tuner so he save big money on that but he has expended alsmost 9G's and the car is not done yet so i will have to say that yes the k20 is lightly more powerful but spending 10G in a swap that in a stock form will produce no more than 190WHP is way to much. with 5G's i have my EK 18c type r in almost 220WHP going strong imagine if a put 4 extra G's and make it 2.0LT (260whp ) you will need 20Gs to put that power in a ek with a k20 swap(including the swap ) go with the b18c the car will feel more stock anyway and have almost the same power for less. ;) and don't forget your lsd 4.78 tranny or 4.40 will be nice to ;)

### any way you go (b18c or K20 you are a very smart man my friend) honda rules jeje

I think a JDM 98spec B18c is good enough and easy to do also good for the money^^ Just too much works and money if u go for the K20 swap...

K series is overrated in my opinion. B series or H series in my opinion. Too many EG hatches with k swap over here -_- its annoying. But thats my opinion. Plus it would be more cost efficient going B series route aswell.. Your choice

I thought of this too but i opt to stick with a B series EK9 and a plan to make a project car (EG) with k20.

i've done a k20a2 swap, and for the money i could have had a b series with similar power.

main reasons i chose to go k
6 speed box.
better fuel economy.
if i blow my engine up i just get another stock k20a2 for about a grand rather than spending a fortune on another b.
oem reliability.
if i decide in the future i want more power i can easily go over 300hp n/a or bolt on a turbo or supercharger for over 400hp, or aim for 600hp changing pistons and rods. (highest stock sleeved k20 ive seen was 822whp.....you will NEVER need to sleeve a k20 unless youre wanting to run 8's)

for me a near stock 250ish hp k20 being unstressed in a lighter car than it was intended and cheap to replace when it blows was a lot more apealing proposition than spending all that money on a bseries running pretty highly stressed at 250 hp, and all my money down the drain if it blew, or if i decided in the future i wanted more power.

i have a k20 dc2 running about 250 bhp, if anyone is wanting to know what one is like and can get to middlesbrough i would be more than happy to take anybody out in it

I was contemplating the same thing just today..as ive seen a b18 with 261.3 bhp on stage one cams with throttle bodies and motec m4 but then the k20 would be great and probably use less petrol then that tuned b18 and its a K ha upta you bud :)

If you have the money there is NO reason to go built b18c over k20. Its superior in everyway
