Problem with set limiter launch control is the rpm it's set at might not suit the surface at different drag tracks. You could end up bogging or spinning loads depending on tyres, track surface and weather conditions on the day. You can have it tps based where you can set it where you want by applying lite throttle to reach desired rpm then floor it to hold at that rpm but not all obd1 tuning software supports this and it's not always successful.
I set up tps based launch control on a eg6 rally car a few months back and after a few rallies the driver asked me to disable it as he wasn't finding it very usefull and has since reported better launching off the line without it so I think that says it all.
I think launch control best serves it's purpose on a boosted car coupled with anti-lag so you can build boost at the line before launching.
I understood you, so only thing I need instead of a launch control is practice!
But at the drag strip, its not the faster car that takes the first place.
The magic is to do 2 qualify runs. You will have to try the best you can.
And for the rest of the race, you should hold the same time!
I made 1st run 15.71 on 1/4mile second run 15.77sec
So you need to give a dail-in number. I give 15.70 as dail-in.
My third run I ran 16.13sec and got eliminated by the other driver who had a 17.60 dail in, and ran 17.88
he had .28 delay, i had .43
My reaction time in all 3 race was around 0.3x
My mistake in the 3th run was that at start, I reached second at starting lights. As soon the 2 lights came on the other driver lights start counting.
I was nervous! I pushed the gas in, rpm went to around 6300, I release the gas and rpm went to around 3500. Meanwhile the other driver left, and I had to go 1.9 seconds after him.
because of the tention, I could not hold the gas stable to get a 5000 rpm like I did in the 2 qualify runs. So I had a bad launch which made me make 16.1sec
I thought, having a launch control will help any driver, at the start line of a drag strip, you just push the gas all the way down, and the RPM will not exceed the starting limit. In my case I would like to have it for 5000 rmp.
So this made me think about using launch control a 2-step or something similar. But I am not sure what I need.
