hey guys i just had new rings ect done on my 9 after building it back up the car started first go but after couple of seconds running oil started flooding out from what looks like head gasket directly below dizzy. we thought it might be head gasket so i stripped it down and replaced gasket after building her back up the exact same thing happend again im using arp head studs and nuts torqued to 80ft lb could they be the issue ?

Before I'd do anything else I'd change the distributor o ring. I had oil leaking from what looked like the head gasket but after changing the o ring it sorted it out. Plus it's only a couple of quid

Head gasket the right way round? Very easily done, I did it yesterday luckily it was spotted before it got put into the car.

Can a head gasket go the "wrong" way around ? I though they can only go on one way ?

It's very possible, I did it yesterday, the holes looks as though they line up and the dowels sit perfectly but it just wants flipping over.

yeah i will give that a try i noticed there is a bolt broken one that holds cam shaft down right at the vtech soleniod could be coming from there. the oil is flooding out thought would o ring cause it to pour out or just seep through ?

it can really only go one way with the way the holes line up bottom right of gasket i will try upload a photo just now

the gasket will fit the dowels upside down. It should have up cut out of the top layer so you can tell.

thanks for the info guys i will check old gasket and see if up is cut out top layer as its same gasket as new one. if this is the problem i had fitted it upside down twice and may have to kill myself lol

Yeah flip that round from left to right. I made the same mistake, very easily done.

The little shiny corner with the part number ( if oem gasket) should always stick out on the vtec solenoid side of the head,

You can see if that's correct with the head in place

100% that's upside down.
As rob and b16mini said, "up" is cut out the top layer and a part number/tag is visible just under the vtec solenoid.
That's assuming it's a genuine Honda gasket?

I can see the silver tag in the picture, not only upside down but wrong way round. You literally couldn't of got that more wrong lol

Happens to the best of us bud.
