Matt's K20 CW EK9

Carbon mirrors, then spoiler would look cool. But then you could go mad for the stuff. They make so much in carbon lol.

Probably the 2 most expensive hobbies, photography and cars, unfortunately they go hand in hand for most lol

Ahh cool. Just noticed the bulbs in the 5th pic and wondered.

Aye possibly. I will look into it, expensive stuff though. I do like carbon touches as long as it's not too much.

Yep indeed, I play drums too (DBMatt stands for DrumBoyMatt) so that's another expensive one!

Yeah they're HID, only way for bulbs if you ask me. Nothing competes with them.

A lot of people dis like hid kits, i had dip and main in my old almera. Lit up the road like nothing else like you said.

Do they not damage the headlights in anyway? Make them fade or cook them due to high temperatures?

I'm a big fan, always had them. Think they look the best and light up the road the best.

No issues at all. The headlamps on mine were brand new when I bought it, so no fade. They will fade in time as they all do but just buff them up when that happens. The heat isn't that intense at all. Believe it or not, HID actually run cooler than halogens. The filaments in halogens are lit up by intense heat caused by electrical current. HID don't use a filament. Definitely cooler.

The poor 9 hadn't had a wash for a little while due to constant bad weather. Being my daily, let's just say it got a little dirty... Here's the worst affected areas

Then it snowed some foam...

And after completing the wash, the finished result! Much better :D I got a little arty with my photos... Lol.

You know what?
It's refreshing to see someone post a dirty car. Mine is in the same state atm because I'm running it in on the way to work, makes me feel abit better knowing someone else has a dirty 9 lol

Nice updates. The carbon lip looks great. Not a fan of the HIDs though... Good way to piss off other motorists :nono:

Agreed! Lol. I almost started a dirty car thread earlier actually, I might still do. Well, I did have a dirty 9 :D but that's the first wash it's had an about 2 weeks with me working shifts and the weather, not had the opportunity. That's literally the dirtiest it's been in my ownership though. I need a winter car diesel lol.

Thanks! :) hahaha, some are some aren't. I don't get flashed much at all really and when I do I just flash back with my HID main beam which is like the sun lol! Main thing is, at least people see me coming and they look the best too IMO

So...

News...

EK9 going into TDI North on Monday for engine swap to happen. Buzzing!

Been away in Germany working the last month or so, so be nice to come back and get it done!!

Was going to do it myself but I've decided I won't really have the time and I just want it doing. Not long now!! :nerv::x:

Well what a predicament!

What was meant to be the start of something has ended up opening a right can of worms!

Got my bottom end out of storage today to find that the bores have got some rust in as I was away working for 5 weeks so I couldn't lubricate them. Take the engine in and turns out its needing a full rebuild to rehone. Also the Pistons are pitted and not up to scratch as I was first told by another place.

So basically now, the B18 is being aborted.

I'm being urged by TDI to K-swap but the trouble is insuring it... It's not going to be cheap. I have also considered rebuilding my B16B and using some of the parts I've got on that including my Skunk2 cams. Wouldn't make K20 power but would still be quite decent i'd hope.

A big part of me wants to K-swap but I just don't know :( keeping it close to original was my objective from the outset. I know K20 gives big power & tuning potential... I'm a bit stuck really :/

Stick with the b18?
Can use your block and Pistons from the b16b and The b18 crank and rods....

I had thought this & stroke the B16B. Trouble is, I don't think TDI are very keen on building B series, they just seem to ram K-swap down your neck. Which doesn't help. It does make sense but it's mega expensive.

Find another tuner then lol
K-swap is great idea but if you want b series you want b series....

They would do it, but they tend to mention a lot how much better K swap would be and that you can only dream of K series figures with B series etc.

As I say, I would K swap but insurance will be mega i think and it loses a bit of originality. I would also have to sell off all my B series parts I've got to fund the K swap which would take ages probably.

I'm seriously considering rebuilding my B16B using my Skunk2 Pro Stage 1 cams on a stock bottom end or a stroked bottom end.

Who else is there tuner wise that could do it? Only really know TDI as they're local to me.

Hmm.
The s2 cams on stock bottom end would be the cheapest option, not sure what sort of power your likely to make, perhaps ask vtec6000 about that.
You'll see 220hp on a b18 with those cams though so stroker is an idea. More costly though.

Quite a bit off topic here but where did you get your gauge pod from again? Fancy relocating mine :)

Was the bottom end re built in your ownership or just a second hand bottom end?

What's happened to the Pistons?

Yeah I agree. Plus I can use my clutch, engine mounts and whatever else I have on it. I could just get new Pistons for the B18 I suppose... Or just use my cams in the B16B. I need them to inspect the B18 really so I know what I can use.

Gauge pod - I'm not sure, was from a plastic moulding company. I will get back to you if I can find it.

Bottom end has been rebuilt in my ownership. The machine shop that built it said they would be happy to run the Pistons but TDI are not. Which I now agree with now because they will probably cause detonation and crack in the end. See my thread about it - http://www.ek9.org/index.php?threads/piston-opinions.62632/
