My Milano Red EK4 Project

Update

Well a fairly quite week this week, Just doing a few of the easier jobs.

Cleaned, painted, and installed the drive shafts (didn't get any photo's :angry2:)

Put the rear shock absorbers together. Then had a load of fun unbolting and re-bolting all the rear suspension, Only took a few hours of swearing :nono: (joys of multilink suspension)

Next job was to clean and underseal the inner door cavities.

Decided to swap the rails around on the Recaro's as the passenger seat was in slightly better condition compared to the drivers.
20130303_163819.jpg

Hung the door's with the inner seals.

Next job was to install the majority of the interior parts. (Didn't take the photo's until the end unfortunately) But here they are, The steering wheel will be changed after the MOT and the rear seats are being changed to DC2 one's, Once the car is finished.

Anyway cheers for reading again and until next time :nice:

wow looks really got alot of red and black should of added a polish ASR sub with BWR polish control arms and Polish beaks bar but all and all car looks outstanding! good job !

Come along mate keep it up, looks great :)

Fair play that is some amount of work! My only criticism is that the engine colour doesnt match the car but other than that very nice :)

Thanks mate. To be honest im not really a fan of all the bling control arms and that only run the brace as i need to, I much prefer the oem arms in black (boring i know)

Come along mate keep it up, looks great

Cheers AzAc54

Thanks 021-bennettt.
As i've said before the engine was painted when the car was going to be green hence the reason its a different colour, I'll probably end up changing it when the engines out again.

unbelievable build, so much work, looks amazing
Cheers BOT :nice: Been a long build but almost done now.

UPDATE

Sorry been a bit over dew but a week off ill and other commitments have taken priority this month.

Received my grooved disks from MTEC at the beginning of the month, Have to say I am impressed with the quality considering the price but I'll have to get some running done before i can completely recommend them.
20130315_112912.jpg
[/IMG]

Now because im mad and like saving money I set about prepping the disk centers for paint.
20130316_103220.jpg
[/IMG]

Doesn't it look pretty :))
20130317_104833.jpg
[/IMG]

Next up i fitted the Legend caliper's, brake lines and loaded the suspension so i could torque all the bolts.
20130324_140020.jpg
[/IMG]

Did the same with the rears.
20130324_140034.jpg
[/IMG]

Thermo Tec wrap arrived (2"X50ft)
20130316_113009.jpg
[/IMG]

Wrapped all the way the end of the manifold, so should hopefully keep oil temps down as well.
20130317_104846.jpg
[/IMG]

Next up the headlights, Sanded and painted the main casing as the horrible dirty grey wouldn't go.
20130324_135936.jpg
[/IMG]

Then gave the chrome lens a very light buff with a scouring pad, Before three light coats of Rover Gunmetal Grey where applied. (Lenses still need to be polished)
20130324_135926.jpg
[/IMG]

Masked up the grill so i could paint the center black (Balls up at the paint shop, as they did it all red)
20130324_135900.jpg
[/IMG]

All done, Not quite expert stands though (Sorry for the **** pic)
20130329_100803.jpg
[/IMG]

Mishimoto rad, Tegiwa slim fan, Horn and bonnet latch (Not pictured) fitted.
20130324_140142.jpg
[/IMG]

Dad then set about making the mounts for the airbox. Then fitted that, expansion bottle and the hoses.
20130325_170002.jpg
[/IMG]

Finally added all the different fluids and oils (Honda MFT and Castrol Edge) Then bleed the clutch and brake system out using Castrol React SRF (Very good fluid, We've never had any trouble with it in the race Mini's)

Well sorry for this slightly boring update but I'll be back on it properly in April as the build hopefully enters it's last couple of weeks
Once again cheers for reading and feel free to add you C&C :nice:

Mate i must say this is defenatly the top 3 of my best builds to date. I miss my milano ek4, its the best car ive owned as it has sentimental value, only car i shed a tear when i sold it :(, regretted it so much.

Can wait to see this in the flesh.

Serious man hours going into this! Reminds me so much of my own, making me homesick ha ha!:(

Top work! Liking the look of the headlight casings! Might have to rob that idea! :naughty:

Haha cheers Tedman. Feel free to use the headlight casing idea. Can't believe other people haven't done it, unless everyone likes the standard hospital grey look :p
Just read your build thread, massive respect can't believe how similar the builds are, Milano Red EK's :win: haha. Bet you can't wait to get home?

Update

Sorry it’s been so long since the last update, have been occupied with a few other things as of late. Good news the project is so close to completion, I really cannot wait!

Right first off I started stripping the door cards down so I could retrieve the arm rests.
20130330_154817.jpg

Quite an easy job, just involved carefully drilling the centers of the plastic clips (being very careful not to go completely through the panel)Once they've been drilled you simply break the heads off and the armrest pops out.
20130330_162230.jpg

Simply repeat and you’re be left with this lot! Ready for the armrest to be taken to the upholsters.
20130330_162704.jpg

Also re fitted the scuttle top, Prepped and painted the strut bar and fitted an OEM DC2 intake hose.
20130420_134731.jpg

Engine bay done! (For now)

Next job was to fit the wings and bumper. Simply find the bolts, Use a bit of muscle to flex and lift the wings and once the desired panel gap has been reach, you simply do up the bolts (Kindly supplied by BoltsBolts)
Repeat the process for the front bumper and this is what you’re left with!
20130413_162238.jpg

20130420_134654.jpg

Amazing how a simple job can make such a transformation.

Attached the cold air feed to the bottom of the air box.
20130413_162259.jpg

Dad added a hole in the bottom panel of the bumper (Might add a small cover in time, will wait to see how much debris or moister gets collected)
20130413_162328.jpg

He also fitted and modified the arch liners (The arch bracing we did stopped us using the original holes) and the mud flaps.
20130413_162356.jpg

Team Dynamics 1.2’s arrived. I’ve always been impressed with the clearance, weight and strength of these wheels.
20130419_183930.jpg

For comparison (I’m using 5mm spacers on the front for both wheels)
20130419_184032.jpg

Lastly I took the wheels and tyres (Dunlop Direzza O3G) to the local garage to be fitted and balanced (Surprising how many places no longer fit part worn tyres)

20130420_134310.jpg

20130420_134346.jpg

All I can say is “Race Car” :p
Before people start saying I’m stupid and it’s a waste these are going to be my track wheels, Will keep the fan blades for daily driving duties.

Well that’s another update done and dusted. Hopefully I can show you a finished car in the next update but will have to wait and see.
Anyway thanks for reading and feel free to leave you C&C’s :nice:

Managed to get the car on floor, So i could see how it sits.

20130420_181743.jpg

20130420_181711.jpg

In normal Eibach fashions it sits a bit high at the back but once the boot, spolier, bumper, exhaust and the other boot contents are fitted it should hopefully lower it a bit more but overall I am happy :D

Looks like you'll be making Japfest then! :naughty:

Good work as always.

Have to get some good shots of it outside the garage! :nice:
