Hi guys.
Thought i would join up as i am thinking of getting a new car and have always fancied a civic.
I previously owned a 2litre 16v 1997 model seat ibiza GTI. This threw the cambelt and i have been offered a:
Honda Civic Ej9 1.4i Illusion.
Ive decided that due to insurance reasons if i buy an ek9 im going too have too go for one of the slower models.
How tuneable are they?? Are they THAT slow??
I like a car that revs well.
The car is MINT and has 2 prev owners, done 88k miles has all service history 7 months MOT and Tax and is mine for 1400.
Thanks for your help guys
Chris

A 1.4 illusion isnt an ek9 mate. It's an EJ9. The EK9 chassis code is only given to the type-R. Just to clear that up for you

lol no worries mate...welcome to the forum. Car sounds like a good'un...strip the hell out of it. Put a few bolt on's on and it will be okay :)

Its a mint care.
Just going to be a pain going from a 2litre 16v to a 1.4 8v
Never driven a japanese car either.
What sort of options are available too lift the bhp??
I was thinking maybe camming it but i don't know.
Thanks again

Why dont you look at getting the ek4 which is a 1.6 engine if you want a bit more speed and if your coming from that ibiza insurance couldnt be that different.

In my opinion spending alot of money trying to get power up on that engine isnt worth it i would just go for good handling mods and iget it like its on rails then maybe in the future do an engine conversion. The money you would spend on getting it up to a decent BHP would way out weigh its worth.

Lol..everyday is a learning day in the HONDA world mate. so much learning to be done! I've been religously into honda's for over 7 years now and still learning a hell of a lot! read read read read is all i have done lol. But then i put my reading into practise when i build my B20 :)

The 1.4 can easily be fettled, the A6 block will bolt right up to your head for a few extra ponies, or you could turbo the 1.4. B series swap is easy enough to do as well.

is it a good price though??
There not as slow as i first thought just been out for a test drive. Read somewhere it was about 13.4 secs 0-60
In reality seemed more around 9 or 10 secs.
Love how it looks.
I thought it was 8v because it was single cam - shows what i know
Think i may put a little deposit to secure it for me until saturday.
At the moment its totally standard so this is my list of things to do :
Slam it on a set of coilies
change the front grill to a debadged.
Add some sort of front splitter
Go with a set of bronze or black (with bluey/purple outline) alloys
Was really into my stickers when i had my german cars but dont know what sort of ones too get for Hondas but might try that with the back window
De badge the boot

Also can someone tell me whether its illegal to have the japanese sized numberplates??
And will i need any bodywork done for them too fit nicely??
Thanks again

Mate you really should consider a ek4 there 1.6 vtec with 160bhp standard and good ones sell for about 2 or 3 grand.Tunable engines, has disk brakes all round, better chassis and has a anti-roll bar.If you wanted to track the 1.4 it would need alot of work done to the chassis to handle right wereas with the vti it has disks and anti roll bar already there up to u tho :)

Due to going travelling in just under 2 years time i cannot afford 2 or 3k
MAX i have is 1500

I own one of these cars and have collated all the info I have in this website
all the links are working and show you stats, spares and an assortment of relevant info
Stats (D14a4 EJ9)
I was lucky enough to get mine for £200 but £1400 is rather alot for that car. It should really be around £900 IMO
