Just like to know, what temp are you lot getting when driving on motorway. Mine is 90-95c then on a trackday yesterday 128c:shocked: hard driving snetterton. is that ok not sure...... Thinking about oil cooler

Thats sounds right for oil temp. Would be good to invest in a oil cooler for the track.

not necessarily since he may still be running on the stock radiator.

Increasing the radiator capacity will help a lot since the stock oil cooler is an air-to-water exchange unit.

Bigskank: I hope you're running a baffled oil pan as well.

baffled oil pas is to prevent oil starvation at certain parts of the engine during high G cornering rite?...
i have a b16a and i know this engine does not have 1. i have plans to bring my car to the track.will track day driving without a baffled oil pan really damage the engine?

depends on your track, your ability and your car's setup.

In general, it is a really good idea to get one installed. If you come across a used pan, you can fabricate your own like the spoon style baffles.

Mugen on left, Spoon on right. The most important bit is the turn down lip, although if you can fab, the vertical lips, they help too.

It does not matter what size radiator he is using. Your still got a water Thermostat and Fan switch. During normal street driving your thermostat will maintain and open/close to maintain low temps and your fan will switch on to control high temps. The benifit of a larger radiator is to better manage higher temps at the track where normal airflow and fan are not good enough on a stock radiator. 90 degrees oil temp is fine on the street. It will only increase the harder you drive.

So yes, we are saying the same thing.

i got around 90°C while normal streetue... while drive harder with fullthrottle it goes up to 120°C... on "autobahn" (is there an english word for it?) it's around 110°C - 115°C with full throttle over a longer time...

My car is a b16b with uprated rad and a baffled sump spoon thermostar and buddy club fan switch.....

His is the half size but dual core. I think he wants to keep the AC as it is / was and every day driver. May have changed from every day driver as he just fitted the Spoon 1:5 way plate LSD and M factory gear set:secret:

So how did it get on then mate, all well i hope

Dunx

sounds like precautions have been taken then, not needed for road but oil cooler with stat for track would be benefit and basically good for longevity of motor and get them oil temps down on track

What if my water temp is constant (ard 90deg) but my oil temp reached 130deg on track? shd i leave the rad alone & go straight for oil cooler?

In my car (not an EK9, but turbocharged motor) my temperatures on the road are usually about 85-90c. I use a good fully synthetic oil, which has shear stabability up to around 130c.

Not been on a trackday for a while, so don't know what my temperatures would reach, but would likely get to 130c.

I have an oil cooler but never fitted it, because in the winter or on cold days, the car struggles to get to 80c oil temperature unless on a wide open road (motorway), takes longer to get to temperature on short journeys and stop start traiffc.

Reason I never fitted the oil cooler, even thou it has a 80c thermostat is because the extra oil capacity and oil filter relocation helps cooling in itself and could delay the oil warm up process even longer..may be just margingly?

I was thinking of fitting it and and placing some sort of steel removal sheet in front of it to block of flow which could be removed for track.

I'm selling the car now thou and probabaly buying an EK9 :D

That seems very abnormal, what kind of car do you have?
