Ok i'm on FD's now MFactory have sorted me a good price but i really can't decide....

I want 4.9 but i'm concerned about revs and how quick my vtec will be coming in especially with a spoon ecu.... I checked and it goes from 107 in 5th to 86mph!!! But the acceleration.

So opinions please if you have one or even if you don't it all helps.

For yourself IAN it would have to be the 4.7 especially if you plan to keep going to the "ring" like you have been!

I myself would go for 4.9 for the tracks in the uk but i think it would kill you on the "ring" TBH

I was going to do this myself but i dont need to now as i have a new gearbox coming very soon!:secret: :D

depends on how often you drive on the motorway and if you track your car how big are the tracks you go to. If your don't drive in the motorway much and your tracks are small go with a 4.9, if your tracks are larger and you drive on the motorway often then go with a 4.7

I'm totally with Blinx on this one.

Do you drive on the motorway? If yes, 4.7. 4500rpm on the motorway and the higher fuel consumption is gonna suck if you drive on the motorway
Do you drive on the Nordschleife? If yes, 4.7 FOR SURE!!! With my EG5 I even make 120mph, let alone your EK9. 4.9 would limit you and make you bounce of your revlimiter.
Do you drive on small tracks, not on the Nordschleife and not on motorways? Then take the 4.9.

Acceleration will be blistering with the 4.9 & B18 but a restriction on the rings big 'straights'.

4.78 gets mine mate.

I have the same dilemma..............

Nordschleife = YES
Motorways = (Try not too) YES
Short tracks = NO

My concern is that i won't see a big enough gain from the 4.785, after watching vids inc the 96 v's 98 spec drag (where there was nothing in it) made me want to go for the 4.928.....

One thing to note as well is i have a few extra rpms up top with the Spoon ECU so still keeps a minimum 140mph top speed.

WHAT TO DO!!!

tough call as down to each individual, i was gonna say 4.7 but deep down youll feel guilty of not goin for 4.9 to get that more acceleration, top speed is biggest concern, dont think economy or revs on motorway really bother you, BUT you mentioned spoon ecu you have good few hundred rpm extra in each gear so top speed will still be pretty good and ok for ring so i say 4.9

LMFAO!!! Thats not helpful!!! :D

Although if you think about the ring there is only one place i was hitting 140mph???
140 is top speed with the 4.9 in?

What about motorway driving, would you be bothered now or in the future by the high revs you make while cruising and higher fuel consumption?

Unless the car is spending most of its life on the freeway, the decreased fuel consumption gained during regular traffic light driving is more than enough to offset any increased fuel consumption on the freeway.

rpm is only one variable that contributes to fuel consumption.

Yeah, that's why I'm asking for motorway/freeway usage. But you say the car uses _less_ fuel in city driving with the 4.9fd?

Yes, as during stop n go traffic, rpm does not have that much of a significance. Throttle position and load (ease of acceleration) plays a much bigger role. With the shorter final drive, your engine doesn't need to "work" as hard to move the car.

Ok! Thanks everyone for there input. Before i tell you about my decision. This is what toped it. I've watched videos, listened to opinions and looked at the gear calculator over and over. What i did was put forza in my xbox, got a mildly tuned civic. And set all the gears to standard. Did a few laps with a 4.4, then a 4.785 and the 4.928. Then compared gears and speeds to my knowledge and video. The 4.9 didn't work. 3rd gear was a waste of time and it began to be just 4th and 5th. The 4.7 seemed to give a better balance and where i was using second allowed 3rd gear. As much as i want the 12% increase from the 4.9 9% will have to do as its much more suited to my driving and what i need. Still 9% is better than no increase. Think cams will have to be next combined with throttle body. No prizes for guessing which brand they'll be...

No offence, but deciding by what you feel through a game controller :? I find that kinda weird. How much motor/freeway driving do you do?
