Petrol stations

Its also usefull to protect our HIGH COMPRESSION LITTLE CIVICS AGAINST KNOCK! Don't be so niave. :please:

LOL @ Niave...

Yeah i'm being Niave, but people saying they can FEEL and NOTICE the performance difference using different types of petrol aren't.

Unless using 99ron over 95ron gives an extra 20bhp, i'm afraid no ones noticing anything. LOL.

I find that running 99ron greatly increases throttle response and its better to be safe than sorry. :D

after speaking to a very experienced tuner, most people think there is a massive difference between say bp 97 ron and shell 99 ron but there really isn't

with the ignition timing that hondas run you can safely run lower octane, it's all in peoples heads most the time

yes i do generally run 99 ron vpower, but that is because there are 2 shell stations right next to me and 1 just next to knockhill on my way there

ran bp ultimate / shell vpower / random 98 ron stuff / ultimate 102 in the last couple weeks when driving to and from germany. did i notice a difference in performance between any of these fuels? no. did the engine sound any different on any of these fuels? no, was just as smooth on any of them

i know it makes a difference on import turbo cars, also know it will make a difference on some real hi comp motors (ijwhitemans 13.2:1 engine for example) but for a standard B16B no

thanks guy for the info i learnt a lot of stuff about fuel which i knew a little about before but now i understand it more

Seriously? glad thats the case! Gulf that have just taken over shell in aboyne do an endurance fuel but is 97 ron, going to be costly filling up my new motor tho.

you'se boys should just be happy you have cheap petrol prices over there..

£1.40 for a litre of 95 ron over here, & £1.48 for one litre off 97 "super" unleaded.

Luckily i live on the border and can travel into the republic and get unleaded for £1.22 a litre

Urm excuse me? £1.46 for V power

I have a good example of how higher octane fuel can help. My mates Turbo'd celica runs on the road fine with normal unleaded. On track with 98 octane it started to knock (Shown on his knock sensor) Switched to 102 (Which was only 2cent a litre more) no more knock! Not even a whiff of it!

One thing to note combustion temperatures also contribute to knock as the fuel ignites easier! So on track when the motor is much hotter its much more prone to knock.

And i'm sorry regardless of "feel" the ECU retards the timing to cope with the knock that your little B16B is now experiencing cause your running 95 ron. Retard your timing means less power as your not getting the biggest bang from the spark plug.

The cars are designed to run higher octane fuel and as good as the knock sensor and ecu is at adjusting i'd rather pay the extra £2 a tank (80p on my R1) to ensure that it will reduce any chance of knocking.

And from my experience with

EG6
EK4
EK9

Everyone used to produce more mpg with higher octane fuel by approx 30 miles. This was tested over Shell and Tesco 95 and 98 (@ the time)

Run what you feel is best this arguement will go on for pages and pages and pages.

Do what you think is working best. End of the day the cost difference between the 2 fuels is very small!

I always run vpower now as I get about 40-60 more miles out of my tank. Don't know if that makes up for the higher price but it can't be far off so why not.

I pay 1.38 /litre for vpower :D
