Ph's top 50 hot hatches


It should have been 6th, the AWD rally reps should not have been included, and personally I'd exclude the Focus RS too for being turbocharged, but that's just being fussy.

Personally I also think it is head and shoulders above both the Golfs and the Clio, though I'm not sure on pure fun whether it could really top the 205.

I think considering how relatively unknown it is compared to the others, it did amazingly well.
 
Should have been higher, but then again we are all going to be biased
 
I was looking at that list. Stock vs stock, it's probably the fastest around a track compared to all the others (including the Escort Cosworth and Intergrale)
 
I think the problem was the article towards the end had alot of influence from owners clubs jumping on and voting for the same car.

I know it's alot better than some of the stuff which came in higher but I can't help but think it done very well considering it was never released over here.

It did very well considering how little is known about it.
Its heads and shoulders above the rest in my book:)
 
Definately done well to say it was a JDM only production car. Good effort!

exactly, i think even if we all went on and voted it still wouldn't have had as many as the golfs act purely because more people have owned or driven them
 
Let's be honest, the Mk2 Golf wasn't even the best around in it's day. The poll is a bit of a popularity contest.

Very true!!

Capability on the track should be a determining factor, its also prob the best looking, most reliable out of the list aswell!
 
Ive never driven a delta or any R.S but imo the ek is far superior in evry way to a 205, clio williams and m1 golf/ polo.

Stil least it got a mention!
 
ive had a mk2 Golf GTi and IMO the ek9 is the better car hands down on all aspects. Think its mainly the hype that gives the mk2 that position.

mehh what do i know, i drive a diesel now :(
 
The civic did damn well considering it was never meant for these shores. But it's hardly surprising that it will be a much faster car than a 205/Golf or infact any of the top ten around a track. A big part in the voting will be how it made people feel to drive them, and I doubt a lot of voters have been behind the wheel of a 9 due to the rarity.
 
I think I have actually driven all of those except for the 5 Turbo2 but we have one in the workshop being painted at the moment so may get a drive in that.
There is no way a Golf or Clio is a better Hot Hatch than the 9. 205's are fun and exciting as you feel you could die in it at any moment!
Focus RS is a very good car. Escort RS is just a pile of ****. Why wasn't the 2 door hatch Sierra RS500 Cosworth on there?
I think this list was more of a cool list than the top ten best cars.
I thought a real Hot Hatch was FWD?

I think it did well... Whenever i say Civic type R every single person i know thinks of the EP3.....

personally i wished it wasn't on there at all, that way its our little secret and we can keep them all to our selves.. :p
