Hey guys,

I'm always interested in, for some reason, the differences between the US and the UK.

I was really surprised to learn (after the soldier hacking) that normal English Police don't carry guns? Do no criminals in the England have guns??

For reference, in the US, it's pretty easy for anyone over 18 to buy a gun, even while the gun laws do vary state by state. And the police pull their guns out on any occasion where they feel even remotely threatened. Also, the US police always seem to have a shotgun in the trunk of their car.

Having a gun in England is a lot harder.(well a proper gun)
The interest is much less over here but its more a way of life where your from.
Basically the police over here rarely need them so why have them?

I would of thought most uk police would be armed? Even here in Ireland around 50% of the gardai carry guns and England has a lot more gun crime than we do?

We have an armed unit in our town now, they still do the normal patrol and routine stops while armed.

Well I can honestly say I've never seen a policeman with a gun. Not in real life anyway.

I don't live a sheltered life either, just the local police don't have them. Or if they do they are well hidden.
They have mace and a truncheon though.

Since when do the Gardai carry guns?

Once you get to the rank of detective your issued with a gun, they might not be visible but a huge number of gaurds carry them, I don't have the proper numbers to hand but it is a very large portion of them not just ERU, DS etc as most people think.

Normal or traffic cops don't carry guns unless called out to some hot case. I can remember a bank robbery in Glasgow a few years back and the units that arrived at the crime scene were carrying MP5s.

The police guard the SAS camp by me and they carry mp5's. Otherwise the other cops don't carry anything. I think all cops should carry a weapon so they can respond quicker to situations like the other day.

The local nuculear plant up here have a massive armed police force, often see them doing patrols with there mp5's and some sort of pistol/side-arm.

Tbh i dont see the need in the national police to be armed, gun crime is in the majority non existant in the uk.

I think it depends on where you live, there is a lot of armed police where i live and a lot of gun crime, and all traffic police are also armed response vehicles and i would imagine its the same in all big city's

I saw a random police officer in McDonalds that had a gun in a holster, thought it was strange as I've never seen that before and haven't seen it since. The only police officers that I've seen carrying guns are the ones in the airports.

Just to point out hand guns are illegal for any member of the public to own. I also think that any rifle that carries more than one round is not allowed. Shot guns are easy to get though.
Dunx

We cant get guns here in the UK not so easily so the normal police dont need them then when the occasion does arise then the riot team is called?

US seems to have more free gun laws so seems US police have to be prepared on a daily basis as any loony can buy 1 id guess

R.I.P the soldier who died in London:bow:

Im certain every city has an armed respinse unit (based on UK) i know glasgow did have 2 but one became no operational and the other one an officer commited suicide with ine of his weapons.

We do have a fair few armed police knocking around all over the UK. A lot of them drive around undercover in plain clothes. I think eventually we will need more armed officers on the streets with the way how crime is going.

I actually hope those two c**ts fully recover in hospital. That way they can be sent to prison and enjoy the rest of their life been beaten to an inch of their life ever day. Nothing justifies what they did, nothing....
