Rob's EK9 Progress

Great work!

Really like the carbon base plate for the spoiler! Big weight difference aswell!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! :nice:

marcelia: It only cost me about £1300 and was money well spent.

RoEk9: I was very surprised to see how heavy the plastic baseplate was.

Here is a better/more recent picture of the base plate.

As I said before I was looking at touching up the old manifold heat shield and got round it last week end just before I set off to Santa Pod the next day.

Managed to get hold of some Matt Black paint which was actually BBQ Paint! Just gave it a quick rub down and a few coats and came out great.

Looks a bit grey in this picture but it is black, honest!

Just had the last week of work and didn't really have much planned but I knew I wanted to give the nine a good waxing before the winter months. Even though the plan is to drive it as little as possible I'm bound to need it at some point! So I wanted to get a good fresh layer on the paint work.

This was after a good claying to remove all the teeny tiny tar spots that had built up over the last few months.

7cc60ca8.jpg

The paint was still super clean with clay bar not even looking dirty. The worst bit was the rear window! It was filthy!

And some finished shots. It took me the whole day and I was fooked!

Still some wax on the front bumper in this shot. Forgot about it at 1st.

Not the best pictures as it had gone cloudy in the first few.

Not sure what will be next except maybe a quick oil service but you never know what might crop up!

Thanks again guys and hope you enjoy! :))

so jealous of the paint job..my car needs one too hehe

Cheers fella tis well worth it! :nice:

Bugger me I've not updated this since September!! :nono:

Well not really done anything worthy of a good update. However I have ended up with a bit of a different list for future parts/mods.

For Christmas the nine got a good service from my local Honda dealer (don't worry I didn't pay!) Level 2 service with new Brake fluid and MTF.

Rear trailing arm bushes are on the way out so these will be added to my list but I will be waiting for the warmer weather before sorting these. My washer jets have decided to give up working so that will need investigating as the motor works but the fluid doesn't make it up the pipe. With any luck will be a simple one but again waiting for the better weather.

Will be sorting a new OEM clutch soon as the one currently installed has seen better days!

I do have some new OEM Type R decals on order so will slap them on as soon as they arrive! :nice:

Hopefully won't be too long before my next proper update as I will be attempting to sort/change parts myself.

So new list of planned mods/fixes

OEM Type R Decals (Ordered)
OEM Clutch kit
OEM RTA Bushes
4-1 Manifold (when funds allow)
Touch up chips on Alloys
Re paint Rocker Cover
Possibly paint Calipers (Copper/Bronze)

First thing is to get past the cold months and give it a good wash!

I am planning to get the majority sorted by the time Japfest comes round in May, so I best get busy!

Finally some real updates!!

OEM Type R Decals (Ordered)
OEM Clutch kit Bought
OEM RTA Bushes Bought
4-1 Manifold (when funds allow)
Touch up chips on Alloys
Re paint Rocker Cover Bought
Possibly paint Calipers (Copper/Bronze) Bought

I have been busy buying parts mostly I have the clutch kit and bushes also have some paint on the way for the rocker and brakes so will need some nice days to sort that lot but for now...

Finally fitted the solenoid cover I got at last years Japfest! lol

Added a small piece of sticky back foam to the inside to stop any rattles.

After the meet last month I finally sorted a new thermostat as the car was staying cold for too long. Not good.

Old vs New (Left one is old)

Made such a difference to the nine! didn't realise how bad it was until the change.

I found an old thread on linkage bushes from MFactory and decided I had to have them! :))

Old rubbish soft items

These where not nakkered but very soft compared to the new ones so should see an improvement in feel.

I originally did not re fit the metal plate that covers the rear bushe and after a few miles the whole lot had slid down over the bolts and was resting on the exhaust! lol Silly mistake! Soon put this on though and now its all good :nice:

The plastic cowling for the wipers was looking pretty nasty, being sun faded and also had some over spray on it. Although this part is not seen much it was bugging the crap out of me!

I ordered some proper plastic/trim dye from the magical eBay.

Removed the trim from the car and touched up some bare spots with some hammerite while it was off.

The finished article!

It came up like new and was dry in less than ten mins! Top stuff! Is very easy to streak tho.

I was a bit bored and I had some old vynal lying around so I slapped it on the window and made myself a sun strip! Still needs a bit of tweaking but overall I'm well chuffed with how it looks. I didn't go too mad with the size of it either.

That's all for now but I do have some touch up paint from Paints4u in NH-0 now for the alloys and for painting behind the bumper. So I'll have some jazzier updates soon!

Thanks all for reading :nice:

Updates!! :))

Got very busy today! Started to strip the front of the nine down ready to paint a few bits but ended up under sealing the inner wings and painting the front callipers. Doesn't sound like much but there was plenty of preparation involved!

Anyway I'll let the pictures do the talking.

f9ba067d.jpg

The inner wings only had some light surface rust round the edges so I was very pleased how good they looked!

As expected the old underseal was wearing a bit thin so took the worst of it off and applied some new stuff. Took an age with the small brush I had!

That's it for today but should have some more to follow over the next couple of days as long as the rain stays away!

All comments welcome as always :nice:

Thanks buddy! :nice:

Well only a few things done today as the rain was on and off and was holding me up a bit.

Applied some under seal to the inside of the wings but only did the prone to rusting areas as I was running a bit low on under seal. Putting the wings back on and getting one side lined up right was a bit of a mission but I got there in the end!

cbc2c490.jpg

Also added a small amount to where it indicator lenses sit as they tend to rattle a fair bit so this should cure the issue. Plus the paint is a bit tin on the edges.

Masked up and painted the rear callipers today but forgot to take any pictures of that except when I was done! Took a lot longer to paint as it was sooo windy!!

33bef0ff.jpg

That was it for today but tomorrow I'll be sticking some fresh paint on the rocker cover as I can do that in the shed even if its pouring out! Which it will be!!

Thanks again for viewing! :))

excellent work man, keep it up:nice:

Thanks for the support :nice:

Well today went pretty well but the rain was on and off so I got wet again! Dam I need a garage!

My 1st job for today was getting the rocker off and prep it for some fresh paint.

Not the worst looking but is flaking and has been bugging me since I got the nine.

57f9a168.jpg

Slapped on a ton of nitormor and then some more and left it while I went and put the nine back together.

999fe54d.jpg

Started with the arch liners washed them down quickly and faffed with them till they where in place.

4372077d.jpg

Skirts next and then the mud flaps, again all got a wipe down. Before I put the bumper on I wanted to find out why the washer jet weren't working. After a quick investigation the pipe was being crushed behind the washer bottle.

a4109c22.jpg

Luckily it wasn't split so after a squeeze back and a re route they are working again! :woot:

So on with the bumper to finish!

Back to rocker and after a good few washes and wipe downs it looked like this.

Masked up

This is where the finished image should be but its still drying and will need baking. Should be all done and back on the nine by the afternoon!

Can't wait to finish it! So watch this space! :))

Well got a few licks of wrinkle paint on the rocker last night but conditions where not great for painting so it's turned out a bit shite with it not really wrinkling up on the sides where the paint was too thin :(( even after a session in the oven!

As the VHT wrinkle paint is quite an orangey red I also had a flat red, that is a truer red but is still very bright at the moment, just to top over the wrinkle finish.

In the oven with just Wrinkle on it here.

8a4db7b5.jpg

Is in a bit of a state! But this is the colour I've ended up with after the red top coat.

f2811c8d.jpg

Still put it back on for the time being as I needed to go out. So I'll let it fully cure and then see how it is and if it still looks pap then I'll just sand it smooth and re paint it a smooth red.

So I'm pretty gutted how its turned out really but can still be fixed.

7401220a.jpg

Also fitted it with a few rubber gasket and some dabs of hondabond :nice:

A few days ago I was just generally checking a few bits over and after having a peek inside the distributor I found the points where a bit worn and the rotor looked like this!

074d17ab.jpg

It didn't look great so I got onto Simauto Parts and ordered up a new dizzy cap a rotor arm.

9e3ac217.jpg

Not fitted it yet but is an easy fit.

I wanted to fix the nasty bits behind the bumper but its been far too wet this week but just to show you guys how it looks.

d94e8bb4.jpg

:nono:

Still, will have to wait until the summer months for that!

I think you really have to whack on quite alot of paint. It looks decent enough I think :) , the flat red looks like it toned it down a fair bit good idea :nice:
