As the title really, im building my car to use on track but im worried about the noise my screamer pipe makes. Ive not had it tested yet but would i get away with my screamer on track, the other option is to plumb it back into my exhaust system but i dont really want to do that. If anyone has any other ideas about how i can get over this it would be of great help.
Thanks matt.

As far as im aware mate tracks usually just test your idle noise so your screamer obviously wont be going off as it wont make boost at idle :)

What about places like bedford who have mic's around the track, i really dont want to have to keep backing off all the time. Other places also have drive past noise tests etc. I really dont want to get black flagged a few laps into the track time!!!!

most tracks have drive by noise testing these days because of do gooder residents that buy houses close to tracks then complain about the noise  if you run an external vented scramer and it p!sses the officals off you will get removed from the track they dont take kindly to it, my local track is croft and they are sh!t hot on noise if you want an easy life plumb it back in or risk a very short expensive track session. I had 2 sets of screamer pipes (twin scroll there are 2) made for my track car so i can try to get away with it and if that doesn't work the other set can bet connected back into the exhaust

Not sure about Snett but there's a few tracks I can think of which employ drive by testing. From what I seen if you get black flagged on noise they generally give you a chance to do something to rectify it rather than ending your day there and then.

Even with static testing tracks I've seen them black flag drivers to get re-tested if they seem unreasonably loud when driving past. Assumably you'd still pass that but if it's just stupidly loud I'd imagine they'd just ask you to leave anyway. I think it's generally in the contract/disclaimer that the circuit reserve the right to remove anyone for any reason if they see fit.

Ok, so it seems like the best thing to do would just be plumb the pipe back into the exhaust and be safe rather than sorry. The guys doing the work said they can make it up so i can change between, so i can plumb it in for track but reverse it for road use using clamps and different bits, wondering if this would work tho. I really need to get my mind made up by sat.!!!! Thanks for help so far tho.

Thats how we got round it on my old works rx7 made a blanking plate for the exhaust and a small link pipe for when its on track easy peasy! :)

They are around 108db when i had mine tested!!!!! Cadwell park only do static tests at half revs where WG is shut so mine passed easily at 99db, there limits 105db

Should be fine at cadwell.

Only used to sound test me at 4,000rpm only once did they ever comment after being on track saying it sounds loud but sounds good ;)

Funny you should say that steve, i get exactly the same said to me :D

well ive decided to get it plumbed in now, will be a shame, gave people a good scare whilest on the road etc but places like bedford autodrome i really dont think i'd pass, so im going down the better safe than sorry route.... boring i know.

i have seen small diameter mufflers put onto screamer pipes for exactly this reason, sounds awesome without completely losing the effect. IIRC burns stainless makes some
