Spoon Calipers Review

This is my next mod!

My friend is going to HK at the end of the month and im giving him some dollar to get me some... im just hoping there a lot chepaer over there!

As for the pads I will be running Steven's old Hawks, HEL lines and not sure what discs yet...

Josh..

How is the pedal when the ignition is off Ian? Then when you turn the key does it sink some?

Niceish, then sinks.

I actually called Tom at TGM today. What a legend gave me some sound advice and some tips and pointers when bleeding.

Basically

Pump pedal 6 times, on the 6th pump hold it down.

Release nipple

Pedal will drop

Lock nipple

Allow pedal to come back up

Repeat 2-3 times per caliper

Left rear

Right rear

Left front

Right front

What we where doing wasn't forceing the air to compress and come out enough. Tom reckons this will sort it.

So roll on this weeked. :nerv:

I rebuilt mine myself, took a couple of hours to do both

Seals were still in good condition just had to t-cut the pistons slightly to remove any grime then lubricate with brake fluid when refitting

Lasted 15k through 2 scottish winters before a strip down, pretty decent :)

Thanx for the info, looks like il be buying some

Just wondered if you had my problem. I had poor brakes before the Brembos, I just thought the EK9 brakes were not that good, but there was a problem wich was highlighted even more with the kit installed.

My pedal is rock solid, then as you turn the key its sinks nearly all the way down, Tom spent hours on them, even tried three different MC's, ended up putting a reducer in the servo hole for more feel, Tom thought a problem on the servo assist side, only ever got 80% stopping from my new kit.

I think he is going with a pedal box with the K, but we will see.

Interesting chris.... Mine where fine before the swap infact very good. I think we just have a little air still trapped because they are a lot better now and the more i drive it the better the pedal feels.... Odd

Nope loads of air come out the rears not much from the fronts. The front left we took of and moved it arround while bleeding which got some air out. All was good. Gona do it again in a couple of weeks cause still not happy with the pedal. Could do with a second opinion. Its no worse than my bro's teg or martins 9... So i don't know.

I did answer  Keep your pants on Dr Stressy :))

careful with this procedure. You should put a block of wood or a phone book under the pedal so it doesn't sink all the way to the floor.

This extended travel can tear the seal in the master cylinder.

This is why I always recommend gravity bleed (time consuming but safe) or using a mityvac (google using that specific name)

I use this one from griot's garage and it's one of my favorite tools that I own...CLEAN, FAST and develops enough vacuum to suck a golf ball through a garden hose...

I also have the same problem with my calipers.
The pedal is quite spongy even though it was bled before i got it back.
The calipers performed better when i was running non abs hubs - Now that i got abs hubs fitted my calipers feel quite rubbish tbh.
Now that i have read this topic i will get them redone. Was going off the calipers for a while lol.
Going to get them bled properly and hopefully i can have some serious stopping power again. Will let you's know when i get a chance to get round to it - will be soon.

How do these work? And how do you perform the bleed?

You could try teh racecar / motorbike final bleeding method, push teh pedal down, cut a piece of wood so that it fits between the pedal and seat - floor mount and leave the pedal with pressure on it overnight, this will force all teh air to teh top of the system,

used to put a cable tie round teh front brake lever on teh motorcross bikes overningt for final bleed and it worked a treat,

Thats interesting never herd of that. Where do you release the air from? Do you need to?

1) attach the end of the hose to the fitting on the caliper
2) pump the mityvac a few times
3) open the bleeder screw on caliper
4) sit back and watch fluid and air drain out
5) close the screw
6) slowly remove the mityvac hose and allow it to vacuum up the excess off the bleeder screw
7) rinse and repeat on the next caliper (don't forget to fill the reservoir!)

I've got to state this one more time...

One of the BEST TOOLS I own!

where else can i get the Multi Fluid Extractor ? Griot's website dont send it outside US/Canada..

Any link to one you recommend? I can't find anything like you've posted and don't know enough about them to make an educated guess.

Thanks :nice:

Woo hoo!!!

Fully bled using TGM's method and the feel is awesom! Brakes are now amazing and ABS isn't kicking so badly now cause got more feel through the pedal!!! Me so happy!
