Hi all, jus a quick question.

Will an ek4 spoon p30 ecu work with an ek9 considering it has the same obd2 fitment? much help appreciated..

Hi there, yes the engines are slightly different but however the product code is the same for both spoon ecu's starting with 37820.

Iv also read from a very few places that it will be compatible.. Can any1 confirm this plz??

oh no, i cant see an ECU desighned for a B16a engine working well on a B16B engine. The fueling is going to be different especially higher up in the rev range.......

fitment wise, it ought to plug in. If you have an EK9 yourself take note of the plugs - I have noticed that there does not appear to be a variation between OBD2B and OBD2A as far as DC2-Rs are concerned....I have yet to completely confirm however.

However that doesn't appear to be the case for EK9s and there does appear to be a difference based on what the opinion of this forum has to say. The best would be to take a picture of the plugs on your ECU case and compare it to the one you wish to purchase.

Thanks raging_angel, ive already checked the obd plugs and they are the same..
Im just unsure whether or not the b16a spoon premap is compatible for the ek9.
In simple terms, is the ek4 spoon ecu different from the ek9 spoon ecu apart from the obd fitment?

thanks..

it's my understanding that the programming is different as the Spoon ecu is designed to work primarily with a stock motor that has I/H/E equipped.

since the 16B has a higher compression ratio along with different cams, the map is likely not the same. Is there a reason why you desire the Spoon ecu so much? Do you not have the option to have a custom map developed for your car?

yea I would prefer a custom map its jus the plug n play option along with the price that I can get the spoon ecu makes me want it. lol
Thanks for ya help much apreciated

the ecus spoon sells are for nearly stock motors as above,

BUT it is a fuzy logic map unlike aftermarket ones such as hondata.
this means it learns ur engine (to an extent)
starting off at a safe map and getting better and better until max (ie ping's etc)
this process takes about two weeks of driving,so i would use it on the b16a.

only concern is the excessive rev limit, spoon is 9k exactly, ek9 is 8600-8800 and b16a is 8250 - 8500.

on ek9 springs it would be fine but i would be worried if you liked the rev limiter :nono: then you may drop a valve.

i have experience with someone using an b16b spoon ecu on a b18c engine with minor breating mods and it made 209 bhp with 148 ilbs and an amazing power curve, i hve never seen such good maps eben by tuners.

it ran slightly lean at 8500 - 9k, the dyno person was well impressed.

if the ecu can learn fuel that much i would be quiet happy in ur situation

Those tuners have a bit of catching up to do then.... This is a Spoon B18C full I/H/E and Spoon ECU for the 18C.

In fact, this is the actual car built and raced by Spoon before being sold to Canada and eventually being resold to the states to my friend.

He's managed to make more power and run a safer AFR using Hondata and his tuner from Top Setup...the one with the K20 Civic/American Touge fame.
