Hi guys,

Thought I'd create a thread to give some info to anyone running a Spoon ECU. People often wonder what parts it was designed to be used with and I've also seen it mentioned a few times that peoples engines seem to run lean after installing the ECU.

Well I've just arrived back from Japan and while I was there I called in at Spoon so thought I'd ask about their ECUs for you.

Basically the ECU has been mapped with enough scope to provide an improvement with anything from a completely standard car through to intake/exhaust upgrades but nothing more. The important part however is that they are mapped to be used with 100 octane fuel as this is the rating of premium pump fuel in Japan. The guy I was speaking to at Spoon looked rather worried when I said we usually get 95,97 and 98 available in the UK! After he made a phone call to confirm, he said that you may be able to get away with running it on 98 if your engine is healthy, as long as you don't drive too hard but realistically it needs to be run on 100 octane fuel to work efficiently and not run the risk of damaging anything :nerv:

I hope that clears up a fairly commonly asked question :)

Makes sense really.
So ther will be a shed load of generic mapped ecu's for sale shortly?
FairPlay for finding someone In Japan who speaks clear enough English to understand your question and answer fully!

So Spoon uk were waffling when they told me ine would be a good upgrade for my track car.... where they knew the car would be driven hard on 99 octane fuel.

Great info mate.

:nice:

Spoon Europe are a useless bunch of idiots.
I've rang a couple of times and they seriously have no clue and are so unhelpful! :angry2:

I wouldn't buy anything spoon anyways. My engine came with a spoon dc2 tb and couldn't see why it would cost the £300 odd pound they are new.

This just shows how much of a joke they actually are lol. UK v-power is 99 octane. Regardless though, on a stock(ish) engine there shouldn't be any need for 100 octane fuel unless the ignition timing has been overly advanced (which would actually cost you power).

If you need any questions answered in the future send me over a PM Jake, I have a quite a few Spoon reference documents/information sheets on products straight from Spoon Japan - cant guarentee I know everything of course, but there's lots of little bits of information on most products.

Can also get Spoon products cheaper then retail if ever after any.

Thanks mate!
I'll be in touch down the line potentially :D

It seems its only the Honda world that think its a good idea to buy an ecu and expect it to work on their setup, dont waste your money, save up for a proper tune.
