Spoon street failed baffles

Bought this off zen, was fine as purchased but it quickly failed on me.
It's seen minimal use, and is a £700 back box new!

Rang spoon and they have no interest claiming it must be a fake as they have never heard of one failing.
It's legit however, has plate, all dimensions exact and part number plaque present.

However they will not accept its real without a sales invoice (to which I or zen do not have).

So, I guess im left with the option of getting this expensive piece of scrap repaired meaning car off road while no back box.
Really disappointed tbh, it's only done about 5k miles if that.

Any advice appreciated

No pics.
There is vibrations at certain rpm, like a high pitch metallic vibration.
Worse when cold, makes it sound crap and overly raspy.

No pics as problems internal

Are sure your not just getting resonance in the system, or it vibrating off the ARB?

From what your describing it doesn't sound like its failed to me, it does sound more like resonance as elchunk said espec if it goes once warmed up

It's not resonance,
It's a different noise all the time as the baffles move.
Cheers for advice but I know it's failed, its also getting louder and more tinny vibey sounding.

So any advice on repairs?

If your sure the baffles are gone, remove the exhaust find someone handy with a plasma cutter and a mig, get them to cut open the box, remove the done baffle material and repack with good stuff, then weld it back up. Very tricky though as the heat from welding tends to warp the thin metal of the box.

BUMP.
Got even worst now, it's not resonance.
Really loud high pitched tinny vibration as revs build, any recommendations on a decent repair place?

Cheers

i have one of these and find it excellent, elchunks method seems like the only way
very expensive backbox though:nerv:

I don't know anyone with a plasma cutter,
I guess make contact with an engineering company? :/

Grinder and mig welder. All I needed to dismantle, shorten and rebuild my DC2 mugen twin loop. (not the pritiest of things thought)

Any grinder with a cutting disc will do to open it up to have a good look inside, if its really bothering you that much and im sure almost any fabricating or even body shop will have a mig (or a tig to keep it neat) to weld the casing back on. Pretty simple stuff.

My OEM backbox is the same, in my case it was caused by a failing dizzy. What happened was that as the dizzy was failing (which I didn't know at that time) the engine would not fire for a while, pumping fuel into the exhaust. Then all of a sudden the dizzy started working and all the fuel in the exhaust exploded, destroying the baffles in the backbox. Now it's making a horrible noise, I'm going to open it up over the winter and see if I can save it. If not I will just buy another OEM backbox so I guess I'm not risking nearly as much as you are...

So I just cut along the length of it?
Or round just by the seam at one end?

This is what i did to my Spoon Street Muffler.

Very common this problem with the Spoon street boxes.

Bet if you take it off and shake it all the crap will come out the tip.

Seen few exhausts repaired on here up for sale so maybe contact one of those guys, think one was "iceman" on here off top of my head.

Goodluck

Any pics?

What's inside? Just a perforated tube and a load of packing?
Where did you cut it?

Thanks

Sorry i dont have pics of it. That was a year ago but im still using it :)
Yup your right thats whats inside. The Exhaust fabricator on our country cut and welded it on the top portion/part of the muffler so the welded part wont be seen

I saw spoon street back boxes for sale on eBay listed with the same issues. Goes to show that paying the price for a "tried and tested" brand can just code word for "this is a rip off!"

Ye ive heard of this happening alot over the last couple of years. Maybe its a bad design on spoons part?
