What's your opinion about 4spot spoon brake kit?I have a civic ek b18 swapped.I'm between spoon and endless....please help...:nice:

go Spoon.

Endless requires you to use their proprietary brake pads due to their shape IIRC.

i have hear many say the Spoon calipers are amazing, furthermore they are made by nissin so you have that OEM reliability :nice: and LOTS of pad options :)

But on the other hand....why not just buy Nissin calipers without Spoon branded on them for a hell of a lot cheaper, a complete rip off in my opinion! :secret:

Up to you though.....

I'm sure there are other Nissin brake calipers out there like the Spoon ones that are OEM on other Honda's and other cars, such as the Legend and NSX calipers....may not be exactly the same design as the Spoon ones but will do just as good a job if not better, and for no doubt a cheaper price?

I reckon if we looked hard enough, or rang Nissin they could point us in the right direction!

No ones mentioned that you have to keep the Spoon calipers in tip top condition as they have NO dust seals.... Bit of a pain, so I woulnt ever get Spoon calipers due to this....

Don't you have to use Spoon pads as well?

no, OEM pads :nice:

interesting, i was not aware of that.

i see what your saying now, i thought you mean we could find the exact caliper but without the spoon logo for cheaper...

I've looked and I've asked...Nissin will produce you the Spoon calipers unbranded if you agree to a minimum order.

Frankly, I don't feel like stocking up 500sets IIRC, for people who can't do a 50% deposit up front. Spoon is a publicly listed company in the Japanese stock market the last time I checked - they have money from various investors to do things like this.

Spoon calipers both twin block and monoblock use stock OEM Honda pad sizes. Their new 355 setup for the FD2, on the other hand I'm unsure of.

Dust seals aren't a problem - the calipers themselves can be rebuilt - when you have them apart, from what I recall, they do utilize a motorbike's dust seal, which shouldn't be a surprise considering Nissin's heavy involvement in the 2 wheel industry.

Interesting stuff Raging Angel! Maybe we could do a 500 set group buy?

Or....just go for Honda Legend or NSX calipers :p

while legend and NSX calipers are good and an obvious upgrade to the EK9's already generous braking system.....They lack the quick pad changing and more importantly the lightness of the Spoon "clappers."

But what you cannot gain in weight savings - your wallet also stays healthier.

OEM pads are better suited for the street.

The one thing I didn't like about the twin blocks is that is doesn't come with a clip to hold the pads in place. Why its a bother? The pads rattle when you steer, and they jump over bumps. The noise is loud and makes it lsound like somethings broken... I know because I get looks all the time when it goes clonk.

But all is fixed as I used the clips from the ek9 calipers and made it fit. I'm sure other users are experiencing this. :nice:

Oh and, 1 day of driving with the SPOON pads produces same amount of brake dust on your wheels as to driving with stock pads for 1-2 weeks no wash. OEM pads are back in.

my EK9 is my daily driver and so far with about 7k miles on the Spoon calipers i've had no problems

had the pads out a couple times to check for wear etc and i've just cleaned the exposed piston, pushed them fully back into the caliper and job done! wasn't really much dirt in about the pistons anyway

he's referring the seals around the piston(s) which are normally made of rubber - they prevent the contamination of the brake fluid and ensure smooth operation.

as I mentioned before, IIRC, the seals are internal much like other aftermarket 4 piston calipers. I've had mine for over 4 years now and they still work just fine with no rebuilds and many track events.

I had the same concerns years ago, but so far - knock on wood - so good.
