Stainless Brake Lines

Earls here, i love them, same lines that come with the grex/alcon brake kit...

Damm... i think i might stay away frm the Goodbridge lines as in this same thread there r coupl of negative feedback towards it... :nono:

anybody had/hve Rusell lines? :D

this sounds like a stupid question but are Goodridge brakelines for EK4 fit the EK9? i am ordering one for my EK9 as the rubber hoses are old now & i need to change out the brake fluid as i have no idea what crap is in my reservoir.

i used to have Goodridge lines on my 600RR but they didn't make my brake lever feel as solid as i want so i sold them off & got HEL instead & that did it for me.

i'm using goodridge hoses with optional stainless fixings and had no problems so far with them :nice:

after some head stratching ive ended up purchasing the Goodbridge lines... but got my m8 a set for his DC2 aswell! :nice:

ive been told to replace my current Dot4 brake fluid for some Dot5 which has a higher heat peak... is this recommendable?

does it matter if i use Dot5 on my EK? :thanks:

DON'T DO IT! Dot 5 is synthetic fluid, which is not compatible with our cars. It doesn't harm paint as much as DOT3-4 fluids, but it is far more compressible than normal fluids and will give a terrible spongy pedal. DOT 5.1 fluid however is compatible with our cars, because it is essentially a DOT 4 fluid with higher temperature limits. Even if the DOT5 bottle says DOT3-4 compatible, it has to be DOT 5.1 to be compatible.
Go with the Motul that stevenek9 recommended.

Thanks for top advice guys!

i guess i was given terrible advice by non Honda owners... :(

motul rbf600 dot 4... online anyone? cos i never seen Motul lubricants locally... would hve to do some shopping around! So might aswell bet it online :nice:

DOT5 is different from DOT5.1, the 5 is a silicon based brake fluid while the 5.1 is glycol based just like DOT3 & DOT4 brake fluid, also the 5.1 is of thinner viscosity to better suit ABS systems.

Motul has got all that in their line up including the RBF600 & a DOT4 RBF600, i use the plain RBF600 on my bike where on the cover says DOT4 should only be used & it's working great, i've had it for months now & no brake fade on our last trackday.

all Motul brake fluids are synthetic mate, DOT3, DOT4, DOT5.1, RBF600 & DOT4 RBF 600, organic brake fluids have a lower boiling point compared to synthetic brake fluids that's why Motul has a higher boiling point for the same spec brake fluid.

it is the DOT5 that he should stay away from, it is silicon based which is too viscous for our braking systems, Motul DOT3, DOT4, DOT5.1, RBF600 & DOT4 RBF 600 are glycol based & is suitable for our brakes.

Ahh, thats what I meant, silicone based. :nono:
One thing I forgot to mention, silicone based fluid is not hygroscopic, which means it does not absorb water. When water enters the brake system with the silicone fluid, it just sits there and doesn't homogenize into the fluid like it would with glycol based hygroscopic fluid. The water sitting in the fluid can easily boil and cause a spongy pedal, and it can cause corrosion.

has anybody ever used billion BB4 DOT 4.1 brake fluid, would this be compatable on my ek4. i wount be using it till i get some ss lines

Olly, do you have a part number from your Hel kit? How much was it & does it come with everything needed? Can only see bike stuff on there.
Used Silkolene prorace 2000 on previous cars, TGM have put in some castrol stuff this time, will ask him which one.

I heard Castrol SRF is the best stuff on the market atm. Its going crazy over here on High performance cars. Its DOT 5.1 and $80 per 500ml bottle. lol

I'm using castrol dot 4.1, Its quite thin compared to OEM

motul RBF600 is your only man, wouldn't use anything else:nice: also not had any problem with goodridge hoses have used 3 set on 3 different civics
