yo folks looking to take my 9 off the road for the next few months and buy a cheap runner . My mate has a lock up so he's letting me use that to store the car in ..

Do most other folks on here do this , any tips ...

:))

i just service the car usually before i tuck it away, but i usually start it every week and get heating going to stop dampness!make sure you have enough antifreeze in your engine too!

May be obvious but, Try to leave the hand brake off. Last time i had mine off the road i left it on and it made my callipers seize up. Not drastic just could have done wothout stripping the rear beakes.

EDIT: ^^^ why would u put fresh oil in BEFORE you leave the car standing for months??

x2 forgot this, definetly worth doing the ground is level the car wont move, just leave it in gear or put a block of timber each side of a tyre!

I always get a few damp traps and put them in the car!

I just keep putting it on trickle charge every month or so... That's about it.

Handbrake off also.

You should drain the the tank, I alway run it right down so there is minimum in the tank which can then mix with some nice fresh stuff in the new year.

So glad this post popped up as I will be storing the new EG over the winter. Some good ideas in here already.

Stick some winter tyres on it and drive it! :nice:

Ha ha or this!

In all seriousness I take mine off the road for a number of reasons.

Salt
Saves me money in fuel
Saves me money in Road Duty
Hate cleaning cars at the best of times
Genuinely don't want to drive or ride much through the winter
The maintenance through the winter is much higher!

Basically I am lazy! :))

I now also take my bike off the road for the same reasons.

Other things I thought if, dehumidifier in the garage and make sure you give it a good clean and polish. I left my bike once with flys over the front.... Lets put it this way when I pulled it out few months later the front was completely green and furry with mold! Yuk!

I also go mad covering/spraying panel joints (especially arches) engine bay, bare metals, exhaust, wheels and wheel nuts, bolts and anything else I can think of with GT85 for added rust protection

doing this with the M3

going to park it on the driveway and forget about it for 4 months with the handbrake off and in gear

job done

Exactly. Parked my SiR for months with no troubles, although I took a battery terminal off it aswell.

yup!

had thought about renting a garage to keep it dry - but at 100 quid minimum a month, over 4 months, that could pay for some cool **** for the car

Put the dehumidifier in the boot of the car and pull all the seat belts out fully, turn it on for a few hours an the inside will be dry along with the seat belts which can gather mould sometimes.

Yup as said, ef9's battery comes out, try use up as much fuel as possible i also take the ecu out as well but this is purely for security reasons. Only problem is my garage is very dusty, after 2 weeks the car is covered in the **** :((
My detailing mate says to stay away from car covers though as they can damage the paint.
Will start it up every couple weeks and leave it running for 15 mins or so.
When summer comes again, fresh fuel in and straight up to get detailed :p

Just drive it :p A cars built to be driven. Aslong as it's undersealed there is no reason for salt damage to occur.

You'll soon come to appreciate the old ek9's habbit of icing on the inside of the windscreen :p

Can just picture a wanted thread for an EF9 ECU now lol.

people don't tend to underseal coilovers and expensive 4 piston calipers etc..........

saying that i ran my high comp B18 EK9 stripped out with no heaters / roll cage / A048 cut slicks over the winter months a couple years back

Stored my mini for a few years.

Clean and wax generously, cover in cotton sheet then a car cover on-top.

Handbrake off
Fuel in tank
High psi in tyres
Rock it back and forth every so often to avoid flat spots on tyres
Don't just start it every so often and idle for few minutes, instead take it for a blast to burn of moisture and contaminants in the oil.

Good idea on moisture traps inside, more the better.

Trickle charger is important, I had to replace my battery after storage.
