Track tyre pressures

Just thought I would ask what tyre pressure everyone else runs when on track?

I have Toyo R1r's 195/50- 15. I run 32 psi normal. What would you recommend for track use?
 
I have found tyre pressures are quite a personal thing.
A lot on here run really low pressures and I couldn't get on with my tyres that low.
There are two pressures people refer to, hot and cold. Cold is obviously stone cold pressure and hot is just as you come off the track.
I run r888 in the same size as you and I have a cold pressure of 25psi. Haven't done a hot pressure test on them as I was at the ring and by the time you've parked up the tyres have lost a lot of heat/pressure already.
I think 32 if that's cold is too high. Start at 25 cold and see how it feels.
 
If I have them that low will I not then just run on the edge/sidewall of the tyre instead of having it quite flat and using the hole surface?
 
The pressure in the tyre builds up as the heat rises and you'll be surprised how much. So the aim is to start low and peak mid session.
Whiteman is at 25hot so at a guess he is around 18-19psi cold.
A guess at best but starting at 25psi on a twisty track you'll likely see 33ish psi hot, personally I found this a very good pressure and have me good confidence to press on.
 
I run 195/50/15 toyo R1Rs on my EK. I ran 26psi all round. I checked the tyres after a 15 min session and it was 36 psi!
 
No prob's. Cheers will prob start at about that and see how I get on :nice:
 
Yeah the rise can be really steep with a road tyre. I did a day with my t1r. They didn't like it lol would start at 23-24 as I knew they where going to rise and one 15min session and It was up at 36plus like yours. So just kept leaking the hot pressure out until I found a psi that I liked.
 
The next session ill start at 22Psi and go down, I've found it's working the centre of the tyre quite hard. It all depends on the track tempatures on the day and how hard you are going to drive. I'd just mess about with it on the day.
 
Actual Track tyre Pressures and Tyre Pressure for Road tyres Used on track are 2 different equations. Road tyres don't really heat up the same way Track orriented tyres do.

Toyo T1R are prime example. If you run a T1R as low as 30psi on track you will have destroyed the shoulders within 4-5 laps. They have very soft side walls. Have seen people out round track on 30psi then come back in after 15min session and the side wall was scrubed off to the point you couldn't tell what make of tyres they were.

From my experience every road tyre has its own characteristics to pressures and driver. T1R's certainly need a bit extra to keep you off the side walls and shoulders. 34psi minimum and 38psi max, see how you fair and how they feel to you. Have seen people running 40+ pressures in road tyres on track to stop scrubbing shoulders, but just seems a bit band aidy to me to cover up suspension not being set up right. Considering 34psi is standard road pressure for a civic.

Cheers. But it is R1R's i'm running not T1R's. They do have a much stiffer side wall and are more track orientated
 
With the stiff side walls you shouldn't need extreme pressures. Both myself and Steven found 25ish hot works well on trackdays and the Nurburgring and produces fairly even wear. When I was running them nearer 30 I was wearing the middles out.

Remember also my 9 is much lighter than stock so wouldn't need stock pressures.

Also by measuring them hot you eliminate some of the equation of driver style and temperatures on the day. They simply are what they are based on those variants.

Like I said for a stiff sidewall tyre like the R888 and the EK9 approx 950kg 25psi hot seems to suit me.
 
I have noticed my inner and middle tread is worn more.
Not sure if thats normal on lowered car.

This is good advice and I can agree, I ran my a048s at around 30-32 psi when fully heated on the track (started with around 22psi at the front front cold) they warmed up and gripped well but also noticed that they wore more in the middle of the tyre meaning they were over inflated for the track at around 32psi


IMO for a semi slick 25-27psi hot Should be perfect for a stripped EK
