Hey all

My brother and I are building our first trackcar , we went for honda as we belive the engines are far supirior bhp and reliabilitly to other brands out there . :blabla: :blabla:

We bought spur of the moment an EK4 :nerv: but first things first is the big old question of what engine . i have spent days reading ek9.org topic and only managed to give myself a headache .

We have between 1k and 2k ish for the conversion

h22 is too heavy for tracks

a b16a2 is for sale by us £600 for everything (anygood)

B18 seems best but gets pricey altho i found you can buy a B18c4 as a complete car (98 civic 1.8 vti aerodeck) for £1000 and thats 170bhp but im guessing theres a reason why there cheap ?

any other engine suggestions ??

My b16b is up for sale just to gauge interest really as thinking of upgrading, asking for £1200 but the price is negotiable:naughty: lol

A B18 would be the best choice, but if you can get a 16b which has had some major bottom end/head work then that could be another option.

What you will definately need is a proper good gearbox, maybe an S80 base?? with a shorter final drive.

If it was me, I'd keep the B16a2 which is a pretty competitive engine in itself, and looked after ones have been known to do better than dogged B16b's and instead I'd instead spend the money on a suitable LSD gearbox with a shorter FD like Weezel said.

b18c4 is good starting place, fit high comp forged pistons and type r head, a proper map and you'll be seeing around 215 bhp

:thanks: thats what i wanted to hear :) and as the b18c4 is a bit cheaper we will have a bit of cash left to do the rest :)

For track leave the enigne standard, don't care what people say, a standard engine is always going tobe more reliable

Splash your money on good suspension/brakes/cage/tyres/seats/harness etc. then engine wise I would change the gearing, add a plated diff, exhaust, decent intake and a remap

Improve the cooling for the engine via a bigger radiator and if needed oil cooler

That should be a fair animal if you strip it out of all un needed weight

Having a good strong engine with a sorted chassis and proper gearing over some big engine build any day for me :nice:

Plus the LSD you are going to swap into you car is a viscous LSD I believe which are absolute rubbish when compared to the helical LSD's from the Type R.
