Hi guys so I bought a ej9 clean body good mileage ect, a week after buying it I had to replace the throttle body :( then the dizzy went put new one in! Now the vss has gone! And it is now knocking bad from the passenger side it's not the shock or ball joint any clue?

It is ideling at 1500rpm now since today after if was fine all along I've got a long list of repairs todo in the morning why has this honda failed me so much :nono: :blinx:
 
gutted for you bud. don't hear to many stories about hondas being a pain in the back side.
 
1. Check your anti roll bar drop links
2. Try cleaning iacv

i know how you feel mate my civic was the exact same, not the cars fault its probs had years of abuse by little emmm you know...

get it all fixed and you will have no more problems dont give up on it just yet
 
Gutted for you bud. First time i hear a civic having so many problems so soon.
 
That's very unlucky, all I ever had to do with my late ek3 was change oil once a year and put fuel in it... As said don't give up on her yet, sounds like she's had a hard life so she defo deserves some tlc!
 
They are reliable cars how ever still not expensive so you can expect this kind of thing from car of that age that has been in The UK all its life.
They are not mirical cars at the end of the day.
As soon as you have sorted those problems out I can't imagine they would keep on appearing at this rate.
How many miles has it done?
 
As said, strange you have had so many problem, throttle body is a weird one to replace. And the idleing is due to either:

-IACV valve on the inlet manifold needing cleaned
-Or a vacuum leak may have occured after changing the TB.

The beauty of the D14 is that parts are always super cheap because it's not very often things ever go wrong and parts aren't very sought after.
 
if all else fails a D14 conplete engine can be had for about £300... in fact there are 4 - 5 on ebay at the moment for under £350 Buy it now..

Why did you change the throttle body ??

£300 for a D14??? I would not pay anywhere near that tbh. These are very common and most of these guys selling them on eBay for that kind of money are just chancers imho. I sent perfectly healthy D15Z6 to scrap because no one would buy it for 80 quid, and that is certainly better engine than D14!
 
it's an old car the honda 'reliability' counts for f*** all if the previous owner abused it and your failures are just wear and tear related which you'd run the risk of whatever car you got.

clean out ur iacv for the idle problem, very small job

The VSS has always been a weak spot, don't buy one new as it's stupid money just get one from breakers yard, very quick and easy to fit though

check al the ball joints on the car (i assume you mean the front seeing as there is no ball joints on the back.) check the lca bushes the droplinks and the bushes for the top camber arms and the anti-roll bar bushes. it will be there somewhere.

Wow thanks for all the support guys!! :wow: no I will not give up on this little money maker! I love the H badge too much! It's been a long of messing with it but... I took out the throttle body and gave it a service iacv ect cleaned all the parts, the vss is gone witch I'm going replacing, found the knocking it is a worn bushing where the shock ties onto the lower control arm!

As for the idle I'd say I just need to adjust it down another touch mite have moved a bit with the vibration of road use! Ill keep ye all up dated with pics to follow! :drive:

What I mean is that I got it for a good price off the guy I got him to drop a lot off the asking price so I know I will sell it for a lot more when the time comes! :)

Lol fair enough i guess..

there is one on there with 39,000 with 3 months warranty for £150. that seems pretty fair, although it should not be known as an auction more of a gamble lol.
 
Hey guys update time so I changed the speed clocks and the speedo came back working! :) I've got a full lower control arm to be picked up in the morning so that sort the banging and o2 sensor now next and tyre and she be ready for testing!! :)

Changed the lower control arm all went well! Took it for test drive and still clunking sounds coming from the underneath I feel it might be in the front middle but don't know that?! I've looked at all the bushings and drop links all sound can not for the live of me figure out that's banging?
 
its not the heat sheild on your cat banging is it ? check your exhaust and its mounts maybe ?
