Tyre pressure for track?

you will have to experiment for yourself.

if you have a tire pyrometer, you can determine this a lot better after coming in off the track to see if the heat is as even as possible over the entire width of the tire.

Generally it is safe to start with 32psi all around and then as the day progresses and tire gets hotter, you ought to deflate.

around 28 psi, although this is only what I've read & don't have any track experience lol

x 2 In my opinion I prefer to start testing with 30 psi :)

I had an evening track event at Snetterton today, and my local club who organised the night had managed to get the Technical and Motorsport Manager for Toyo Tyres (Alan Meaker) to come along and do measurements, give advice etc :)

After a 20 minute session, starting with 32 PSI cold, my measurements were:

<edit>Bridgestone RE010 by the way, stock size</edit>

N/S Front:
Tread Temp oC (Out, Mid, Inner) - 65,67,66
Pressure PSI - 39.5

O/S Front:
Tread Temp oC (Out, Mid, Inner) - 58,48,47
Pressure PSI - 38.5

N/S Rear:
Tread Temp oC (Out, Mid, Inner) - 52,54,56
Pressure PSI - 38.5

O/S Rear:
Tread Temp oC (Out, Mid, Inner) - 42,40,33
Pressure PSI - 37

As expected, the temperature ranges reflect a clockwise circuit, and with more aggressive camber I think the O/S would have been more even across the tyre width.

As for pressure, in the past I'd reduced the cold pressure so that they'd run at 32 PSI hot, however this time I was really impressed with the grip levels, I think having the higher pressure helped the sidewall stiffness, and the even temperature spread over the N/S tyres I think shows they were being worked evenly.

My 2p anyway :)

Cheers,
Alex
