Utt ohhh.....

Right,

Ive taken off the bits and checked rods and there is about 1mm of play on each rod i'd say.... All rods have very very similar amount of play if not identical.

What do you think of this? And where do i go from here?

From what i've read if you sayings its near the top i would at very leat whip the cam cover off and look for any damaged components.

To locate a noise rattle best way is to get a long screwdriver touch parts of the engine running with your ear touching the handle. Its amazing how much easier it is.

sorry i was moving the rods side to side.... Silly me........

Moved them up and down and there is absolutely no play what so ever......

So what the hell is that knocking? Does this eliminate bottom end bearing failure?

in my old car had the same problem it started with a little knock while i was driving home thank god i was only about a mile and a half away but as i got to the driveway the sound was horrible ..really loud knocking.. my brother took it to his friend at a local shop turns out it was one of my pulleys crank? i dont remember but it was DEFF a pulley in my situation check your pulleys see if they have any play ..

Ive found 1 of my spark plugs pretty much completely undone!! The noise was coming from that exact point! Coincidence?

What an idiot! Im in process of putting it all back together with some new oil and test it. I have a funny feeling thats the problem

I'll keep updated, its bloody started raining so cant carry on :angry2:

Ha ha at least it sounds like you have found the problem!! Let us know how you get on!

hope it's an easy fix for u mate. Just incase it's not there is a small chance of it being a conrod small end bearing, as in the bearing at the top of the conrod that holds the gudgeon pin.

Haha hope that is the problem
Atleast everyone has learnt some thing new from all this ;)

 foool!!!

Sorted the problem. Cars noiseless and feels a dream to drive. Smooth as a whistle.

Well at least i checked my bottom end in the process! hahahaha! A f*ckin spark plug  It sounded terrible, i dont know why i didnt check under the cam cover to begin with as the noise was just so apparent right on there.

Lesson learned :)

And thanks for all the advice in this thread, your all stars :nice:

Wow. If only every engine problem was so easily solved! Congratulations!

Was it not sparking in that cylinder then or was it detonating?

Thanks!

Thats the thing, i noticed no detonating what so ever. The drive to the shops before i noticed the noise i was driving easy, no vtec etc but used a bit of throttle you know and was fine to drive.

Im a little puzzled how it was still sparking. It must have slowly worked its way loose over a period as it was well unwound! Probably around 6 full rotations! The others were a little looser then they should be to so nipped em all up.

How does this happen? I mean how does a plug back off? Seems strange to me. I have had this happen to me, but a total loss of power and a dent in the hood! lol

I would say the vibrations in the engine. Quite possibly the Innovative engine mounts? Combined with some hard driving?

I can only narrow it down to that.....

Ha, you shot a piston out did you?

Sorted! Brands end of the month to celebrate :naughty:

haha!
Is there a brands sesh again this Month Chris?

I had a look and next brands seemed to be in October is i remember.....?
