well i need a new manifold as my 4-1 mugen is severly dented and i took the car to my usual performance garage to see if they could repair the dents

They cant cause of where they are and said its seriously restricting 2 cylinders and that i could do damage by high reving if the cylinders cant breath enough

so i thought a std itr mani would do as a temp replacement but had a few questions

whats best the 4-2-1 or 4-1?

any benefits over a std ek9 manifold?

how much better is say a jdm 4-1 dc sports manifold? (these aint to dear)

thanks for help

If it's only temporary go for the cheaper option which is 96 spec. I have a dc sports 4-1. Good manifold but can dent easily cause it hangs very low.

itr96 and ek9 i believe have the same header,if its temporary go with the cheaper.

it will b temp , as in till next year at least. thers a 96 spec 4-2-1 on ebay for £140 or a jdm dc sports 4-1 ceramic coated for about £290.

i know people dont rate ceramic coated but it would do as it should b good performance but how much better than the 96 teg one i dont know ?

i fancy the cheaper option but the dc sports i imagine would go best with wi ecu map as its still 4-1 like the mugen

so i put it to a vote, 96 teg or jdm dc sports ?? my engine is stoked to 1.8 btw

DC Sports gets my vote - had that exact one and couldnt fault it - wouldnt heat wrap it tho as it will crack.

96 spec if its only temp, save your money for a better one in the future.

Thats some good advice - if the choice between the two was permenant then i'd go DC but if just temporary go 96 spec.

Is 96 spec only 2.25" collector? I'm 99% sure it is.

Whats a standard EK9 system? 2.25" ? or 2.5" ?

98 Spec is defo 2.25" and Std system is stainless im sure.

is there going to b a noticeable difference between the 2 on 1/4 mile or track?

...if you stick with a 4-1, not a 4-2-1,
you most likely will get dents as well like you did on your
previous exhaust header if you don't watch the road
more carefully.

So buy the lower cost solution because your going to
dent it, just be sure to be at 2.5" at the collector for
your type r.

They make plates that help protect the 4-1 headers,
you should think about getting one. Or make one.
Not expensive either.
#39.99 USD -- 25.63 GBP'ish

Going over those raised manhole covers or a speedbump,
you think nothing of it, until you do that oil change one day and
the header pipes are hammered beyond oblivion.

The Pro Car Innovations Header Skid Plate is a quick and easy fix
to protect your investment from being damaged. This holds true
for racecars as well. Occasionally, there will be debris from off
track incidents or debris from other cars that can damage the
underside of the header. The PCI header skid plate installs quick
and easy.

NOTE: Designed for 4-1 style headers.
Long tube designs where the 4 primaries are next to each other
may be too wide. If the 4 primaries are stacked or slightly offset,
then it may fit. Either way, it still serves its purpose to protect.

Are you sure you are not thinking of the UKDM ITR? That is 2.25 I think.

The 96 spec should be the same as the ek9 one but not 100% sure.
